Automatic pallet handling: Push-back racking is one of the most
common and efficient storage methods for palletized and unitized
loads. In the past, AGVs have not been used to service push-back
racking due to the many challenges of loading and unloading the
rack with automation.
Human-Way Egemin Guided Vehicle technology has overcome
these challenges. Now, all of the storage, inventory management,
and space-saving benefits of push-back racking can be combined
with the efficiency, cost savings, and damage reduction provided
by Egemin Guided Vehicles in a variety of automated warehouse
system applications.
Egemin Guided Vehicle Systems can be integrated with most
existing push-back racking installations and can handle any pallet
size or any unitized load. They provide one-touch storage and one-touch retrieval, loading pallet or unit loads directly onto over-the-road
trailers from push-back storage, or unloading from trailers directly
into push-back storage. They can load and unload any common trailer with offset, skew, and floor angle typically found in man-aboard
fork truck loading and unloading applications. The systems also integrate easily with RFID, or third-party WMS and ERP software.

Rugged individuals: As warehouses and port facilities become
more operationally complex, the information required by employees at the point of interaction or activity increases and is also more
complex. To support more advanced data collection and communication applications, there is an increased demand for vehicle-mounted computers supported by a full OS—such as Windows XP.
To address this need, LXE Inc. offers the new VX8 and VX9 rugged
mobile computers operating on Windows XP. The VX8 and VX9
mobile PCs feature 10.4-inch and 12.1-inch touch-screen displays
that are designed for vehicle-mounted use in tough environments.
The VX8 and VX9 enable organizations to run more advanced
applications but still leverage existing computer support resources.
That, combined with LXE’s customer service and support network,
can boost cost savings, flexibility, and reliability.
The compact VX8 computer is suitable for applications where users
need high-performance computing in a small package. The slim-line
VX9 computer, which is available with an XGA display option, is targeted at users that need a larger screen area. Both are available with
WWAN, WLAN, and Bluetooth radios. (LXE Inc., www.lxe.com)
Drum roll please: Providing a robust, high-performance belt conveyor drive solution,
Interroll’s 8.5-inch diameter drum motor is
designed to manage the most demanding medium and
heavy unit load applications. The heavy-duty 220 Series drum
motor features an internal gearing system with 97 percent efficiency. When fully loaded, the 220 Series drum motor uses 32
percent less power than equivalent gear motor drives, drastically
reducing energy costs and carbon footprints. Typical applications
include telescope conveyors, baggage handling in airports, and
postal and distribution centers.
The 220 Series is a self-contained unit, as the motor, gearbox,
and bearings are enclosed in a steel shell. The enclosure makes
the drum motor ideal for harsh environment applications, as the
internal gearing system is protected from dust, water, oil, grease,
chemicals, and other harmful substances. In addition to reducing
maintenance costs, the steel enclosure provides a space-saving
design that improves safety and decreases noise levels while operating at full capacity.
The 220 Series drum motor is available in two versions. The
220M is specifically designed for medium-duty loads and can match
irregular load conditions for normal heavy unit handling applications.
The 220H is designed for heavy-duty loads and features a three-stage gearbox and stronger bearings to fulfill the requirements of
heavy unit handling at low speeds, high torques, and high belt tensions. (Interroll, (800) 830-9680, www.interroll.us)
Charging ahead: Electric Transportation Engineering Corp. (eTec)
introduces the new Minit-Charger FC battery fast-charging system.
The FC is specifically designed for heavy-duty material handling applications and reduces a facility’s electrical consumption by featuring a
high-energy conversion efficiency of 97 percent. Utilizing Minit-Charger’s advanced algorithm technology, the Minit-Charger FC system is smaller and lighter than many comparable charging systems.
The Minit-Charger FC is a UL-certified, high-frequency, single-connector charger that provides up to 320 amps of output. The FC
Charger can fast-charge battery systems of 48 volts (or less) more
than four times faster than conventional chargers. Because of its
lightweight, compact design, the system can be pole or wall
mounted in order to save valuable floor space. The FC Charger
also features the Minit-Trak data management system, which provides a comprehensive performance evaluation of a battery’s state
of health and state of charge. It also has the Battery Data Control
(BDC) system, which automatically adjusts charging rates to
increase and maximize battery life. (e Tec, www.minit-charger.com)
