; Voice activated. Zetes, a European provider of value-added
solutions and systems integration services, has implemented
a voice-directed put-away solution from Vocollect within 130
Argos stores. Since the voice solution was introduced, Argos
has seen significant process improvements through reduced
time to the final sale point.
; A speedy solution. Rush Tracking Systems has selected
Impinj’s Speedway Revolution reader for the VisiblEdge RFID
lift truck solution. To enhance real-time inventory accuracy,
the VisiblEdge turnkey solution automatically captures product identification and location information without operator
interaction.
; Norwegian good(s). NorgesGruppen ASA, Norway’s largest
grocery retailer, and TINE BA, Norway’s largest producer and
distributor of dairy products, have chosen Swisslog to design
automated material handling systems for their new distribution facilities. The NorgesGruppen facility will feature a warehouse with Swisslog’s Vectura Stacker Cranes, ProMove conveyors, and AutomationManager software. At TINE, the project will include two high-bay warehouses along with an Order
Release Module subsystem, a monorail system, and
WarehouseManager software.
; A crafty solution. Specialty arts and crafts retailer Michaels
Stores Inc. has gone live with RedPrairie’s Warehouse
Management and Workforce Management solutions in three
distribution facilities in Texas, Florida, and Washington. Michaels,
which distributes more than 37,000 different items to over 1,000
stores in the United States and Canada, will use the two solutions to boost the efficiency of its distribution operations.
; Double duty. Third-party logistics service provider Exel has
assumed the management and operation of Longaberger Co.’s
customer fulfillment center in Frazeysburg, Ohio. Exel will handle fulfillment through Longaberger’s major sales channels,
including online orders and sales generated by 45,000 independent home consultants nationwide. Longaberger is known
for its handcrafted baskets and home products.
In addition, Exel has announced that it will provide delivery
services to dealers served by Chrysler LLC’s Mopar parts distribution center in St. Louis, Mo. Exel’s responsibilities will include
packing parts into protective containers and loading trailers.
; Management by Menlo. Menlo Worldwide Logistics has
launched a warehouse and inventory management solution
for Crane Worldwide Logistics at its Mexico City multiclient
facility. Menlo is handling premier writing products for one of
Crane’s customers.
