provider for mobile workers, has announced that Japan’s IHI
Construction Machinery Ltd. has achieved a 70-percent reduction in work errors from a one-year implementation of
Vocollect Voice at its parts center. In addition, the company
realized a 46-percent average improvement in productivity,
reducing the number of workers per shift by 50 percent.
; Tour de Charlotte. Uptown Cycles, an independent retailer
of cycling equipment, has deployed an RFID-enabled inventory management system from UPM Raflatac, Freedom
Shopping, and Zebra Technologies at its store in Charlotte, N.C.
The FLiP system, designed by Freedom Shopping, enables
merchants to tag individual items for electronic surveillance.
; Future forecast. Britain-based Marks and Spencer Group
has chosen Quantum Retail’s software solution, Q, to manage
the end-to-end inventory forecasting, replenishment, and
order planning needs of its food division. The system is able
to forecast and make inventory decisions in real time while
considering both inter-day and intra-day stocking.
; Anchors aweigh. Ocean World Lines (OWL), a non-vessel
operating common carrier, has launched OWL360°, an order,
shipment, and inventory tracking portal powered by
Management Dynamics’ Supply Chain Visibility solution. This
flexible Web-based solution allows OWL to provide comprehensive and timely data on purchase orders and shipments
across all modes and trade lanes, enabling customers to analyze and improve their supply chain efficiency.
; Perfectly pear-ed. Dole Food Co. has signed on to use
Intelligent Global Pooling Systems’ all-plastic pallets with
embedded RFID tags to ship some of its products within
North America. The non-porous nature of the iGPS pallets
prevents the absorption of liquids, providing an extra margin
of safety for the food supply, while embedded RFID tags
enable tracking of shipments throughout the supply chain.
; Track-savvy. Highland Spring, a British bottled water company, has contracted with Savi Networks to provide wireless monitoring for its export shipments. Savi Networks will deploy the
SaviTrak intelligence service to monitor shipments from the
United Kingdom to offshore consumers worldwide.
; Faster food. Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc. has expanded its
network with McLane Foodservice to include food distribution
services in Texas and the surrounding states. McLane will provide Arby’s with supply chain services, including logistics, procurement, and inventory management systems.
