Schaefer Carousel System:
The Schaefer Carousel System
(SCS) offers automated piece
picking at 1,000 picks per hour.
With a compact, modular system design, the SCS provides
customers with a dynamic, goods-to-person order picking system.
In its standard version, the SCS module consists of four
carousels with up to 6,000 bin locations, from which up to four
workstations can optionally be supplied. When the user experiences an increase in capacity requirements, order volume, or
throughput (or simply needs a larger-size bin), the modular
Schaefer Carousel System can easily be adapted by installing
additional modules. The SCS standard bins can also be partitioned into a maximum of 16 different compartments.
The SCS combines the advantages of compact carousel systems with those of conventional storage and retrieval machines.
Fully automated lifts with load-carrying devices retrieve the storage bins from their storage locations in four aisles and transfer
them to the carousel system’s integrated conveyor system, which
takes the bins to the order picking positions. These lifts require
only 20 percent of the power needed by conventional small-parts
storage systems. (SSI Schaefer, www.ssi-schaefer.us)
Automatic Speed Control: Dematic has introduced Automatic
Speed Control, a new control solution that automatically adjusts
the speed of the entire sortation system from merge through the
sorter take-away conveyors to accommodate actual throughput
volume. By automatically adjusting the sorter speed, the control
solution reduces energy use, wear on equipment, sound levels,
and maintenance requirements. Automatic Speed Control extends
the life of the sorter and conveyors, and improves package control,
while reducing the cost to operate, the company says.
The sorter automatically adjusts to the throughput demand as
it changes throughout the day. If there is a surge or decline in
flow, the sorter automatically speeds up or slows down to accommodate the variable rate. With Automatic Speed Control, the
sorter does not run continuously at full speed throughout each
shift since actual demand vacillates in most warehouse operations. This is how the energy savings are accomplished while
reducing stress on the conveyors and sorter. For a typical system,
the Automatic Speed Control will vary the speed from 250 to 540
feet per minute, depending on the rate of carton flow.
There are multiple applications for Automatic Speed Control in
most operations. In a typical configuration, electronic sensors on
the upstream conveyor network detect inbound volume. For a
shipping application, electronic sensing monitors downstream
availability. (Dematic, www.dematic.us)
Are Your Pallets Carrying Chemicals Along With Your Product?
Green Line Armor controls the material content of its
hybrid sustained use pallets (SUP™) ensuring that no
polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) and no 2, 4,6-
tribromophenol (TBP) is used in our pallets at any time.
Control your pallet material from manufacture, through
reuse, to recycle with the SUP™ from Green Line
Armor.
No TBP
No PBDE
Yes SUP™
The Green Line Armor Hybrid Sustained Use Pallet (SUP™) is ISPM- 15 Certified. We use heat to achieve the eradication.
This is just one of the many benefits associated with using the SUP™. Environmentally friendly, RFID enabled, and supported by a 10 year limited warranty, the SUP™ eliminates the issues you face when dealing with pallets. To learn more
