Industrial touchscreen computers: Rugged
computer specialist JLT Mobile Computers has
introduced its Power Touch projective capacitive
touch (PCT) display technology.
The PowerTouch technology is available on
two of JLT’s most popular industrial computers. The first is the compact Verso+ 10 mobile
computer, which is ideal for use within the
heavy-duty and logistics segments due to its
small form factor, flexible QuickLock feature,
and outstanding performance, the company
says.
The second is the JLT1214P forklift computer, which is designed for a variety of logistics applications, ranging from warehousing
and food distribution to freezer storage and
cross-docking.
Both the Verso+ 10 and the JLT1214P
computers come equipped with the new
PowerTouch display. They offer users an interaction experience similar to that of consumer
devices, but thanks to the addition of a 0.07-
inch thick, chemically toughened glass cover,
the screens are far more resilient, making
scratches, scuffs, or even breakage a thing
of the past. Unlike resistive screens, which
typically fail in areas where keys are regularly
pressed, PCT screens aren’t susceptible to
wear and tear, making them well suited for
use with virtual keyboard technology. In addition, PowerTouch screens share the capability
of resistive touchscreens in that they can be
operated by users wearing gloves of different
materials and thicknesses.
Combined with an Intel quad-core processor, the PowerTouch screens also exhibit very
fast response times, which means that after
the screen is touched, the response appears
to be instantaneous. Finally, advanced control
firmware, which filters out unwanted signals
caused by water droplets on the screen, means
that these screens can be deployed in wet
environments. (JLT Mobile Computers, www.

Retail-compliant delivery service: In an effort
to help retail suppliers meet their growing delivery and compliance challenges, Averitt Express
has enhanced its retail compliance solutions to
provide suppliers with a simple, single-due-date
delivery service to retail distribution centers.
This improvement ensures that retail suppliers will be able to meet strict delivery windows
and compliance standards that have been set
down by many major retailers.
Averitt’s single-due-date delivery service to
retail DCs is offered to retail suppliers as a standard service without any upcharges. (Averitt

RFID readers: Siemens has modernized its Simatic RF300 RFID (radio-frequency
identification) system by adding three new readers: the RF310R, RF340R and
RF350R. The new readers are integrated into the Simatic Step 7 engineering systems and the TIA Portal to make commissioning easy.
The newly introduced devices offer an additional transponder protocol (air interface) for Moby E transponders (Mifare classic, ISO 14443 A) and automatic recognition of various types of transponders (RF300, ISO 15693, Mifare classic). This
simplifies migration from old systems and opens the way for new applications.
The compact system is designed for controlling and optimizing the material flow
in industrial production, particularly in closely packed assembly lines.
The new readers can be seamlessly integrated into Simatic controllers. They are
fully compatible with the existing RF300 product family: mechanically (dimensions
and mounting holes), electrically (power supply and interfaces) and with respect
to systems integration (application software, function blocks, and communication
modules).
Migration is easy, according to the company. Old Moby I systems only need to
have the readers and transponders replaced. Moby E systems can be expanded
with RF300 readers. This enables Moby E installations to be converted cost-effectively without replacing the transponders.
The new user-friendly setup help finds the optimal position for the antenna
to achieve high reliability, especially in metallic environments. In this way, users
can optimize the position of the reader transponder during installation and commissioning without needing additional equipment. Both the RF310R and RF340R
readers have an integrated antenna. An external antenna can be connected to the
RF350R. Antennas are available in various shapes and sizes to suit the particular
application. (Siemens, www.siemens.com)
