Delivery scheduling solution: FarEye, a logistics technology solutions firm, has introduced
a mobility solution for retailers to optimize and
provide flexible delivery options. FarEye was
designed to help retailers gain visibility into the
order delivery process.
As soon as the customer or direct seller
places an order, the warehouse team prepares
a ready-to-ship package and uses FarEye’s platform to digitally notify one of the client’s multiple 3PL (third-party logistics service) partners.
Based on the customer’s specific requirements,
the ideal 3PL partner is identified, the order is
assigned to the 3PL, and the 3PL partner organizes delivery to the customer or direct seller
location seamlessly.
FarEye’s platform lets retailers cut down
the delivery cycle time as well as evaluate 3PL
partners based on their on-the-ground performance. The solution also helps 3PL partners
determine the most efficient routing plan and
delivery process. Simultaneously, the delivery teams keep the customer or direct seller
engaged by text messaging the status of the
shipment through their handheld devices. With
FarEye’s mobility solution, the customer can
reschedule the shipment delivery at his own
convenience. (FarEye, www.getfareye.com/in/)
Traffic management software: AutoGuide
has released a new version of Avinu, a traffic
management software application for automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that optimizes
the vehicles’ movement. The software, which
features open architecture for universal integration, provides in-depth reports about cycle
times, battery levels, errors, and more.
AutoGuide also introduced a new wireless
push button that works with Avinu 3.0 to call
and release automated guided vehicles with a
simple push of a button. The durable device
can be mounted to a wall or forklift for plug-in power or operate as a battery-powered
handheld tool. The cost-effective button takes
the place of expensive programmable logic
controllers (PLCs) for simple job scheduling.

Rail tracking service: Freight tracking and visibility specialist FourKites has added rail/inter-modal freight tracking to its real-time freight
visibility and orchestration platform. With this
addition, shippers and third-party logistics service providers can gain enhanced visibility and
control of the transportation lifecycle, the
company says.
FourKites is also pursuing plans through 2017
to introduce support for additional modes of
transportation. (FourKites, www.fourkites.com)
Bar-code scanners: Zebra Technologies has introduced the DS8100 series of
handheld bar-code scanners. The DS8100 Series units combine the power of an
800 MHz microprocessor, a high-resolution megapixel sensor, and Zebra’s PRZM
technology. With this unique combination of hardware and advanced algorithms,
the scanners instantly capture the most problematic bar codes, including dense,
poorly printed, crinkled, faded, distorted, and dirty or damaged labels as well as
electronic bar codes on dimly lit displays.
The new units feature a scanning range of up to 24 inches, a high-resolution
imaging sensor, and a bright “aiming spot” to boost operating speed. Multi-code
data formatting provides the ability to capture multiple bar codes and transmit only those needed in the precise order required by the application. (Zebra
