Large-capacity lift trucks: The
new 8-Series line of large-capacity cushion- and pneumatic-tire
lift trucks from Toyota Material
Handling, U.S.A. Inc. (TMHU)
meets the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency’s Tier- 4 Final
requirements for emissions control well before the rule’s 2015
effective date. The trucks are
designed for customers that
have to move heavy loads in both indoor and outdoor applications like the paper, lumber, and concrete industries as well as
large distribution centers.
The 8-Series line-up now includes 8,000- to 17,500-pound
pneumatic models with diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG),
gasoline, and dual-fuel engines, along with cushion LPG-pow-ered models with 8,000- to 15,500-pound lifting capacities. In
addition, Toyota is introducing a 12,000-pound special model for
moving paper rolls.
Powering the 8-Series are two new engines —the 1KD diesel
and 1FS gasoline/LPG—designed and built by Toyota. These 4-
cylinder engines provide the same or greater horsepower and
torque as an inline 6-cylinder engine while achieving greater fuel
savings. On average, the 8-Series models reduce fuel consumption by 30 percent for the 1KD diesel engine and 20 percent for
the 1FS gasoline/LPG model, depending on the application and
other factors.
The 1KD fuel-injection system works in conjunction with an
intercooled, variable-nozzle turbocharger and a diesel oxidation
catalyst, minimizing emissions and particulate matter to levels
meeting the Tier- 4 Final emissions standards. In addition, Toyota
has developed three additional fuel-saving features:
▪ A load-sensing power steering system that operates the power
steering system only when there is demand from the driver;
▪ An economy mode that optimizes the engine’s performance
curve in relation to work conditions; and
▪ A programmable “auto engine off” feature that automatically powers down the lift truck after a preset amount of time.
Among the other new features in the 8-Series are a redesigned
chassis and housing for controllers and relays to better protect
against damage; an improved cooling system featuring a 55-per-
cent larger radiator and an external hydraulic cooler to protect
the engine against heat damage; and ergonomic improvements
in the floor space, entry step, overhead guard, steering wheel,
and operator assist grips. ( www.toyotaforklift.com)
Custom toolboxes: The toolboxes from Rousseau Metal Inc. can
be customized to reflect customer preferences. The toolboxes are
offered in a wide range of dimensions, accessories, and colors.
Customers can even choose stainless steel drawer fronts and
mag casters. (Rousseau Metal Corp., www.rousseaumetal.com)
Manual palletizer: The PalletPal Roll-In Level Loader from
Southworth Products Corp. is a manual palletizer that makes
loading and unloading full pallets easier. The Roll-In has a low-profile open-ended platform, which allows the forks of an ordinary hand pallet truck to literally “roll into” it. The forks fit in
between the platform’s outer beams and a center support beam,
while the pallet ends up on top of the scissor-lift platform. This
design, which accommodates loads on any open-bottom pallet
or skid, ensures that the load is evenly placed when the hand
truck is lowered and rolled away.
The Roll-In Level Loader allows workers to feed and offload full
pallets with a hand pallet truck, so they don’t have to wait for a
forklift and trained operator to help them.
A powered foot switch allows hands-free adjustment of the
platform to the most comfortable height as boxes are added or
removed, reducing worker fatigue and injuries. The platform can
be accessed from all four sides with no bending and minimal
reach-over. A full-perimeter, auto-stop toe guard provides an
added measure of safety. (Southworth Products Corp.,

Omnichannel fulfillment solution: Manhattan Associates’
new Store Inventory and Fulfillment solution is designed to help
retailers better manage the developing omnichannel retailing
environment. The solution helps with store order fulfillment,
store inventory management, and store operations intelligence.
The Store Inventory and Fulfillment solution enables a store
associate to execute pick-up-in-store, ship-from-store, and store-to-store transfer tasks entirely on a mobile device, while continuing to interact with customers on the store floor. The new
release also includes “one-step receive and reserve,” which
allows store associates to take receipt of and hold site-to-store
and store-to-store deliveries for online customers who have chosen to pick up their orders in-store—all with a single step on a
mobile device.
In addition, the new release includes Store Operations
Intelligence, which provides store managers with information on
the fulfillment and inventory activities occurring in their store.

Stock indicator magnet:
Aigner Label Holder Corp. has
created a 2- by 6-inch reversible
magnet that can be used to
identify a stock-out condition.
When the red side is on top, the
magnet indicates a stock out.
When the green side is up, it
indicates that stock is available.
The magnet adheres to any metal surface. Users can identify
the product by applying a self-adhesive bar-code label to the
magnet or simply by using a pen. The magnets are available in
packs of 12 and can be cut with scissors to smaller sizes. (Aigner
