Bar-code scanner: Denso ADC has introduced a new stationary
two-dimensional bar-code scanner, the QB30. This device combines high-speed scanning and a small size with rugged, ele-ment-resistant construction.
According to Denso ADC, the new QB30 scanner is great for
anywhere you need high-speed scanning—such as a crowded
packaging line—because it is small and can scan so close up. The
QB30 is only 2. 4 inches high, 2. 4 inches wide, and 1.0 inches
thick, making it easy to use in applications where space is limited. A wide-angle focusing lens enables placement of the unit as
close as 1. 6 inches away from the bar codes to be scanned.
The QB30 scans twice as fast as the previous QB20 model. It
can also scan moving objects, such as products or containers on
a conveyor belt. A batch-scanning capability reduces inspection
times in applications with multiple bar codes.
In addition, the QB30 features an IP54 dustproof and splash-proof protection level. It has an extended operating temperature
range of - 4 degrees Fahrenheit to +122 degrees Fahrenheit,
allowing it to function in a wide variety of environments. (Denso

Powered lift and hand
truck: The new Model LNB-
350 Lift’n Buddy combines a
small powered stacker with a
two-wheel hand truck.
Model LNB-350 helps transfer loads to and from shelves,
Built on an aluminum frame, Model LNB-350 can handle loads
of up to 350 pounds and lift them up to 36 inches. The unit’s 10-
inch polyurethane tires can easily roll over uneven floors, pavement, thresholds, and carpeting without going flat or leaving
skid marks. Lifting power is provided by an on-board 12-volt battery that is maintenance-free and has a built-in charger. The platform has 10 slots in case the load needs to be secured with
bungee cords or straps.
In addition to greatly reducing the physical strain of lifting
heavy or awkward loads, the Model LNB-350 also improves productivity. Many jobs that formerly required two people can now
be done in less time by one person and a Lift’n Buddy. By reducing the effort exerted by an employee, even one handling lighter
loads, a Lift’n Buddy reduces the risk of injury, repetitive stress
disorders, and costly workers compensation claims, all while
speeding up the work.
Options and accessories for the Model LNB-350 Lift’n Buddy
include multiple handle styles, custom platforms and finishes, an
attachment for lifting 5-gallon pails, a kickstand, and a cylinder-handling kit. (Lift’n Buddy, www.liftnbuddy.com/)
Battery-powered stockpicker: Crown Equipment Corp. has
introduced a new stockpicker, the Crown SP 4000 Series. This
36-volt, battery-powered stockpicker is capable of handling
loads of up to 3,000 pounds and reaching a lift height of 366
inches. The Crown SP 4000 features a maximum travel speed of
7. 5 miles per hour, a lift speed of 100 feet per minute, and a
lower speed of 80 feet per minute. According to Crown, these
speeds surpass industry benchmarks.
The Crown SP 4000 Series features a regenerative lowering
system that captures lost energy and returns it to the battery. The
forklift has an AC traction system that offers responsive control
and smooth directional changes and offers an AC lift system with
a variable lift/lower feature for precise operation.
These stockpickers feature the industry’s largest platform window – 50-percent larger than windows on other stockpickers.
The large window gives operators the visibility they need to safely and effectively maneuver up and down the warehouse aisle.
The forklift has a rigid mast design and offers the most usable
floor space of any stockpicker, the company says.
The Crown SP 4000 includes the company’s Access 1 2 3 technology, which provides on-board intelligence for monitoring and
controlling all systems of the forklift. Access 1 2 3 also provides
advanced diagnostics that are helpful for technicians during the
troubleshooting process. The on-board display panel shows a
battery discharge indicator, an hour meter, operator and service
messages, and event codes. The forklift can also be equipped
with Crown Equipment’s InfoLink, a wireless fleet and operator
management system that delivers data from forklifts. (Crown

Demand management software: Software company Teradata
Corp. has released a new version of its Teradata Demand Chain
Management software, which forecasts consumer demand and
synchronizes inventory to match it.
Teradata Demand Chain Management now enables companies to optimize inventory levels for complex omnichannel supply
chains. Inventory levels are optimized and demand is synchronized throughout the supply chain, from point of purchase up to
the vendor.
Teradata Demand Chain helps companies better forecast product needs and replenish inventory according to customer shopping patterns. The latest release includes new features such as
new product introduction forecasting and event forecasting.
Teradata Demand Chain Management utilizes a “bottom-up”
approach to linking consumer demand with inventory levels and
sales forecasts, by item, by location, weekly, and daily. These
forecasts recognize historical performance, are deep in seasonal
and causal identification, and respond automatically to the latest
buying patterns and trends. The forecast is then combined with
inventory and replenishment strategies, which serve to pull
inventory through the supply chain based on reliable data about
expected sales across each location in the network.
Teradata’s latest Demand Chain Management release provides
multiechelon replenishment supporting time-phased automated
replenishment and allocation for multiple distribution center
order levels. It also supports flow-through distribution capabilities for replenishment and allocation. (Teradata Corp., www.ter-adata.com/dcm)
