Auto-tie horizontal balers: American Baler offers two
auto-tie horizontal balers suitable for distribution centers.
The DC Balers were specifically designed for DC facilities
that handle whole upright boxes. The balers can be used with
shredders in high-volume applications and can produce up to
31,350 cubic feet per hour. These balers are open-ended, auto-tie, single ram horizontal clearance balers that feature an 8-inch
trunnion-design main cylinder and a five-wire auto-tie with an
optional manual tie.
The company’s 42WS Series can also be used in distribution
centers for set-up and flattened cartons since the wide mouth
feed openings are ideal for these applications. The 42W Balers
are available with three different feed opening sizes, three cylinder sizes, and six motor sizes. Each model is available with or

Energy-efficient shredders: Blower Application Co.
(BloApCo) offers several industrial shredder models, including
core shredders, horizontal floor shredders, pallet shredders, piggyback shredders, and warehouse shredders. The pierce-and-tear shredding action
pulls material into the shredder and tears
it apart.
The ripper wheels form a spiral pattern
along the shaft, spreading the impact
over the entire shredding shaft. This delivers more capacity with less horsepower,
resulting in lower energy costs than any
other waste-reduction method, the company says.
Tearing cartons and boxes into small pieces produces 50 percent denser bales and increases compactor density up to five
times, according to the manufacturer. This reduces the number
of bales and can trim haul-away costs by as much as 75 percent.
By eliminating jams, a BloApCo shredder will eliminate the
need for personnel to push boxes into the baler infeed hopper.
Additional safety devices include automatic jog reverse and overload relays, and a safety overweight plate built into the head end
of the infeed conveyor, cutting power whenever loads over 60 to
80 pounds reach the area.
According to the company, another key feature of an industrial shredder is its ability to increase the amount of material in
a baling chamber, so balers function more efficiently. Boxes and
cartons clog baler infeed hoppers because they tumble when
they’re conveyed into a baler’s mouth. When you add a shredder
to the system, there is no limit to the size of the box you can bale,
and any standard baler will do.
A BloApCo shredding/baling/compacting system can operate
completely unattended. In addition, BloApCo equipment is
designed to be heavy-duty and easily maintained by equipment

High-volume baler: Balemaster says its Fat Boy baler integrates high-density baling technology with 40 percent larger bale
size to produce bales that weigh in at more than 3,500 pounds.
The company says that as a result, the 58-inch-wide by 43-inch-
high bales can increase productivity and profitability because
there are fewer bales to handle, resulting in lower material
handling costs. Ideal for high-volume packers, the Fat Boy baler
allows a lift truck operator to load two containers in the same
time it once took to load one container.
The Fat Boy baler features an extra-large 54- by 75-inch feed
hopper, which allows for greater throughputs. The larger bale
footprint saves valuable floor space and provides a stable base
for better stacking, Balemaster says. The baler also features a
