Pick-to-light solution: Kardex Remstar offers a range of
storage solutions designed to allow an organization to keep
inventory all in one place, whether it’s small parts or large, heavy
tools. One component of the company’s storage solution is the
Shuttle XP vertical lift module (VLM), which is integrated with its
Power Pick Global inventory management software and pick-to-light technology.
Shuttle XP VLM models range from the light-duty 250 model
to the heavy-duty Shuttle XP 1000 model, which boasts a
2,204-pound capacity per tray. The Shuttle XP 1000 can also be
combined with a crane mounted to the load profile. It can be
maneuvered into position in front of the access opening to pick
up heavy items from the floor or from a pallet.
The Shuttle XP VLM can also be equipped with new access-ready lights. These lights tell the operator when the tray is in
place and ready for picking, a feature designed to make operator
training fast and efficient. (Kardex Remstar, www.kardexrem-star.com)
Light-directed picking
system: Dematic, a supplier of integrated automated
technology, software, and
services, has introduced the
next-generation light-directed picking system for order
fulfillment. The new version
includes enhancements that support increased picking efficiency,
higher pick rates, and more operational flexibility. The Dematic
light-directed order fulfillment system is a standardized pre-en-gineered solution that can be configured as either a pick-to-light
or a put-to-light method of piece and case picking.
The Dematic light-directed order fulfillment system is managed and directed by the Dematic iQ warehouse execution system (WES). The WES software manages and directs the picking
staff while synchronizing workflows to accommodate the priorities and demands of order fulfillment. Dematic iQ optimizes the
light-directed picking process to reduce order processing time,
accommodate peaks in order volume, enable increased order
accuracy, and align tasks to meet demand.
New features include dynamic zone balancing, active order
handoff, and operator enter/exit. Dynamic zone balancing allows
operators to be more efficient, since the software expands or
contracts the picks zone boundaries to accommodate workload. Active order hand-off provides operators with the ability
to turn over picking tasks to another operator. Operator enter/
exit permits operators to be inserted or removed at any point in
the system to accommodate peaks or lulls in activity. (Dematic,

Guided work software:
Honeywell has launched a fully integrated voice-directed solution for SAP
Business One users.
The company signed an original
equipment manufacturer (OEM)
agreement with SAP to integrate and
offer its Guided Work Solutions as
an add-on for SAP Business One.
The bundled solutions were devised
to help distribution center customers
boost productivity, accuracy, and safety by making it easy for workers to
perform complex warehousing tasks,
such as picking, receiving, putaway, packing, and shipping.
Honeywell’s Guided Work Solutions is a software application
that runs on the Android operating system and is based on the
company’s Vocollect voice technology. The worker-focused software is integrated with SAP Business One, an enterprise resource
planning (ERP) platform designed for DCs operated by small and
medium-sized companies. When SAP Business One receives a
work order, Honeywell’s Guided Work Solutions software translates that order into a set of interactive voice commands to allow
workers to perform their tasks hands-free and eyes-free.
The software runs on a wide range of compatible hardware,
including Honeywell’s mobile computers and other Android
mobile devices. The Android platform provides support for multiple interfaces, including voice, scanning, and keypad.
SAP Business One is a software application that provides small
and medium-sized enterprises with solutions to manage warehouse operations, logistics, and order fulfillment. Through the
SAP partner program, SAP provides companies like Honeywell
with access to technologies and platforms to build integrated
solutions that are easy to deploy for end-users.
By allowing workers to receive instructions and capture data
hands-free and eyes-free, voice technology improves efficiency,
accuracy, and worker safety, the company says. It also minimizes
training time for new workers by simplifying and standardizing workflows in warehouses and DCs. (Honeywell Safety and
