Label printer-applicator: Weber Packaging Solutions’ new Model 4300e Pro-Apply all-electric label printer-applicator saves energy by eliminating the use of compressed air.
The unit prints labels in a next-out mode, automatically removes them from their
liners, and retains them by vacuum onto the applicator pad. Unlike most conventional label printer-applicators, however, the new system creates that vacuum with
electrically operated fans instead of external compressed air.
As a carton approaches the Model 4300e system, the pad gently applies a label
to the top or side of a case or package. The system handles labels up to 6 inches
wide and 6 inches long. (Weber Packaging Solutions, www.weberpackaging.com)
X65 conveyor: FlexLink has introduced the
X65 conveyor—a unit that offers a lower total
cost of ownership than other conveyors on
the market, according to the company.
First, the X65 requires less service than
comparable conveyors, according to FlexLink.
The manufacturer says the X65’s platform is
twice as strong as that of other conveyors.
This strength increases the conveyor’s service
life and doubles the intervals between scheduled maintenance times.
Second, the installation costs are lower.
Because the company has increased the X65’s
maximum conveyor length, the unit requires
fewer drives and transfers. This means that
the layouts are simpler, making it cheaper to
install the conveyor.
Third, the X65 conveyor uses new high-efficiency drive technology, which reduces power
consumption. Depending on the application
and choice of drive unit, power consumption
is 8 percent to 44 percent less than FlexLink’s
previous high-efficiency drive units.
Finally, the X65 can operate at 120 meters
per minute, allowing it to have a high capacity and reducing the cost per produced unit.
FlexLink has also reduced the noise level of the
conveyor and improved operator safety.
According to the company, the X65 is 80 percent
quieter than standard conveyors and the noise
level is comparable to an office environment.
The X65 provides standardized functions
for handling products of up to 1 kilogram
( 2. 20 pounds). (FlexLink, www.flexlink.com)
Bar-code reader: Cognex Corp. has
announced a new series of compact bar-code
readers designed for one-dimensional bar-code reading. The new DataMan 50L measures 23.5mm by 27mm by 43.5mm (0.9 by
1. 1 by 1. 7 inches) and features an IP65-rated
housing. It is suitable for mounting in very
tight spaces on production lines and in
machinery. The DataMan 50L is also equipped
with Hotbars, a proprietary image analysis
technology that delivers the highest read rates
in the industry, according to Cognex. Hotbars
permits the DataMan 50L to even read bar
codes that are damaged, distorted, blurred,
scratched, low height, or low contrast.
The reader comes with the ability to analyze “no reads” by letting the user see what
the reader sees, either live on a monitor or
through image archiving. It is designed with
no moving parts that can wear out and
require replacement.
The DataMan 50L features a three-position
lens and an integrated aimer for easy setup at
different working distances. (Cognex Corp.,
