Bar-code reader performance monitoring: Cognex Corp. is now offering Cognex
Explorer Real Time Monitoring (RTM), a per-formance-monitoring system for its DataMan
bar-code readers.
The system uses a scalable architecture, a
Web-based performance statistics interface,
ment performance. The system provides a
data-driven approach that helps customers
pinpoint deficiencies in their applications.
Cognex Explorer RTM is a server-based
product that connects to a network of
DataMan readers and regularly pulls read-rate
information as well as images from packages.
When a process error results in a package
with an unread bar code, images are sent
to RTM, which automatically evaluates and
categorizes each image with terms such as
“packages with no label present” or “poorly
printed labels,” and stores them in a database. The data can be accessed through any
device with a Web browser. (Cognex Corp.,

Bar-code scanner: Koamtac Inc. has released
an advanced, miniature Bluetooth bar-code
scanner, the KDC30. The KDC30/30i comes
equipped with a Code-brand bar-code reader
and provides a cost-effective 1-D and 2-D
bar-code scanning solution for smartphone
and tablet applications, according to the

by Apple for use with iOS devices and is also
compatible with Android, Blackberry, Mac,
and Windows devices.
Measuring just 3. 3 inches long, the
Bluetooth scanner can perform more than
10,000 scans per charge. This highly config-urable device includes four buttons: scan, up
and down (for controlling Bluetooth connections and remotely activating soft keyboards),
and a delete key.
The KDC30 has ample memory for offline
data capture and is able to store up to 10,000
bar codes. (Koamtac, www.koamtacstore.
