Rugged tablet: Janam
Technologies LLC says
its new XT1 rugged tablet is the lightest and
most powerful one in
the industry. According
to the manufacturer,
the XT1 provides more
“screen viewability”
than traditional PDAs
or handheld computers
yet is lighter and less
unwieldy than a full-dis-play rugged tablet.
The XT1 blends cut-ting-edge technologies
most often found in
consumer phones with the ruggedness, sealing, bar-code scanning, and rapid battery
recharging needed by mobile workers. The
XT1 is equipped with integrated 2-D bar-code
scanning technology to eliminate the challenges often associated with camera scanners
or bulky sled attachments. It also has IP54
sealing and the ability to withstand repeated
three-foot drops to concrete.
The new XT1 rugged mini-tablet is Janam’s
first device to support the Android operating system. (Janam Technologies LLC, www.

Trailer refrigeration controls: Carrier
Transicold’s new APX remote puts trailer
refrigeration controls in locations more easily
accessible to operators.
The remote panels are available in two
configurations: “flush-mount” for use inside
the trailer near the rear doors and “
surface-mount” for use on trailer exteriors.
According to Carrier Transicold, flush-mount
panels are especially useful at distribution
centers, where personnel can configure the
refrigeration unit control by walking into the
trailer from a loading dock. Surface-mount
panels are typically installed near the front
of the trailer, opposite the main unit control
located behind the driver, providing safer
curbside access for the operator when the rig
is parked along a traffic corridor.
Operators can view all of the refrigeration
unit data and settings on the remote panel
display. They may also select preset configurations or perform other functions, such as
manually changing temperature set points
and toggling between continuous and stop/
start modes. They can also use the panels
to turn the refrigeration unit on and off,
defrost the unit, or run a pre-trip diagnostic
routine. (Carrier Transicold, www.trucktrailer.
