Conveyor drum motor: The Interroll Group has introduced
what it describes as the world’s most powerful synchronous
drum motor for belt conveyor systems, with an output of up to
1. 1 kilowatts. The drive, which features high torque and high
belt tension, is suitable for companies with high-throughput
conveying requirements.
The new motor allows for belt speeds of up to 3. 34 meters
( 10.96 feet) per second. The drive is manufactured entirely from
stainless steel, allowing food and pharmaceutical industries to
meet the highest hygiene standards. When compared to solutions with traditional gear motors, the cleaning and disinfection
times are reduced by up to 30 percent, the company says. The
construction and design of the fully enclosed drive comply with
the directives of the European Hygienic Engineering & Design
Group (EHEDG). In order to also comply with the strictest of
requirements, the drive uses only materials that are certified
in accordance with the specifications of the U.S. Department
of Agriculture (USDA), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), and the EU directive EC 1935/2004.
The synchronous motors were designed to be energy efficient,
and the company says the motors display a loss of performance
of just 9 percent. A planetary gear that is manufactured from
hardened steel transfers 92 to 95 percent of the available power
directly to the relevant conveyor system and reduces the energy
requirement when compared with alternative drive systems.

Inflatable dock shelter: Material handling safety systems manufacturer Rite-Hite has introduced the Uni-Dox Inflatable Shelter
for facilities whose loading docks service a wide variety of truck
and trailer configurations.
The design of the Uni-Dox
shelter allows it to rapidly inflate after the truck is
docked and deflate before the
vehicle departs. According to
Rite-Hite, the Uni-Dox inflates
50 percent faster than other
inflatable shelters, thanks to
its advanced air bag and connector designs (which hold
air better during inflation). Its
deflation and retraction efficiency is also enhanced by
the use of a counterweight
retraction system instead of a
motorized return.
The inflatable shelter uses
conforming, noninflatable
draft pads to reduce the risk of damage and leaks. Not only do
the draft pads diminish wear and tear on the inflatable bags, but
they also improve the overall effectiveness and reliability of the
seal, Rite-Hite says.
The head and side bags of the Uni-Dox inflate around the
top and sides of the truck trailer, respectively, after the trailer is
secured to the loading dock. Through manual activation, the air
bags are then deflated and retracted behind a protective structure before the trailer pulls away from the dock. A single-phase
blower fills the air bags.
In addition to loading docks that service a variety of trailer sizes
(including trailers with tailgate extensions), the Uni-Dox shelter is
also suitable for facilities that require full width and height access
to the rear of the trailer; where strong pressure is present; or
where there are yard jockeys, truck levelers, or trailers that have
hydraulic rear tandems. (Rite-Hite, www.ritehite.com)
Truck scale: Rice Lake Weighing Systems has announced the
addition of the Survivor OTR-LP to its line of durable truck scales.
The OTR-LP is designed as a replacement scale solution when an
existing truck scale was not manufactured by Rice Lake. The OTR-LP features a low profile and is designed for easy installation in
pre-existing concrete foundations, the company says.
According to Rice Lake, Survivor truck scales utilize up to 25
percent more steel content than other truck scales, and the OTR-LP features a 5/16- or 3/8-inch diamond plate deck and a rugged
I-beam construction. Eight-inch wide-flange beams minimize
deflection and prolong the life of the weighbridge, accommodating a minimum of 250 trucks per day for 25 years without
fatigue. The OTR-LP is available in 10- or 11-foot widths, with
profiles as low as 10 inches and a two- to eight-inch cleanout.
The OTR-LP includes a lightning protection package, and the
weighbridge is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from delivery. The OTR-LP has a 200,000-
pound gross weight capacity and a 90,000-pound concentrated
load capacity and dual tandem axle rating. (Rice Lake Weighing
