COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Founded in 1970, Unimin has grown through both customer
satisfaction and acquisition to become North America's
largest producer of silica sand, olivine and microcrystalline
silica. International in its scope, Unimin has established the
quality standard for high purity quartz, and it is the world's
primary supplier of nepheline syenite. Responding to the
needs of our customers, we have also become a major producer of feldspar, dolomite, southern bentonite, ball clay,
kaolin, and blended mineral products. Our objective is to
build integrated systems of superior deposits, innovative
technology, experienced management, and an empowered
work force in the pursuit of customer satisfaction and continuous product improvement.
grape-like morphology. Easily wetted and dispersed in
either solvent or water-based systems, they are selected for
their excellent tint retention, touch-up properties, durability over prolonged exposure and resistance to dirt and
weathering.
•UNISPAR® micronized feldspar fillers are processed from
a naturally white, chemically inert sodium feldspar with
exceptionally low soluble salts. The lower oil absorption of
these ultra white fillers permits higher loading levels without adversely affecting viscosity, and the opportunity to
maximize color strength and intensity with only small
increases of coloring pigments.
•SILVERBOND® ground crystalline silica is produced
from a high quality quartz feed stock for applications
which require structurally sound and non-reactive fine
mineral fillers. Completely inert and pH neutral,
SILVERBOND will not alter or react when incorporated
in catalyzed or multi-component chemical systems, and
will not degrade when employed in extreme temperatures or harsh environments.
•SNOBRITE® white pigment extenders are produced from
selectively sourced intermediate kaolins. With a plate-like
structure, SNOBRITE provides semi-reinforcing properties, improved chemical resistance, and thixotropy for ease
of application. It provides cost effective performance in a
wide range of paints, sealants, adhesives, caulking compounds and mastics.
MARKETS SERVED:
Unimin and Unimin Specialty Minerals process, beneficiate, and size nepheline syenite, silica, feldspar, microcrystalline silica, and kaolin to produce functional fillers and
extenders. With production facilities and distribution channels worldwide, paint chemists have easier access to these
engineered formulating options.
•MINEX® functional fillers and extenders are produced
from nepheline syenite; a naturally occurring silica deficient, sodium-potassium aluminosilicate. A proven performance enhancer in a broad range of architectural paints,
OEM and powder coatings, clearcoats and adhesives,
MINEX offers premium results to improve all critical paint
properties.
•IMSIL® microcrystalline silica fillers are produced from
inert, naturally occurring alpha quartz with a unique
