Dow completes polyols expansion project
Dow Chemical has completed its multi-year polyols expansion project at the
company’s Terneuzen, Netherlands
plant. The additional capability will support customers in Europe as well as in
other growing regions such as India, the
Middle East and Africa. The downstream
markets that will benefit from this
expanded capacity, which includes specialty polyols, are furniture and bedding;
coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers; building and construction; and
automotive industries. The capability
expansion makes Terneuzen the largest
and most flexible of Dow’s 11 polyols production sites.

for all titanium dioxide grade sold in North America.
World Minerals will raise prices on all products
effective January 1. Price increases will average
Germany. As a result, PP capacity at
the site will be reduced by 110KT.
CLARIANT TO ACQUIRE
EUROMASTER ASSETS
Clariant has signed an agreement to
acquire the assets of Euromaster
based in Russia and specializing in the
manufacture of masterbatches. With
its headquarters in Nizhnekamsk in
the Republic of Tatarstan, the compa-
ny manufactures masterbatches and
special additives for the Russian mar-
ket. The company has a catalog of
1,500 colors and a nominal master-
batches manufacturing capacity of
more than 1,100 tons. The planned
transaction covers Euromaster’s fixed
assets including land, buildings and
equipment, as well as current assets
such as the company’s inventory. Also
3% in North America, and may be higher in some
cases to correlate with specific products and market conditions. The price increases will affect all
diatomite, perlite and silicate products.
DISTRIBUTOR APPOINTMENTS
Columbian Chemicals has expanded its distribution agreement with The M.F. Cachat Company
to include the Northeast and Southeast U.S.
Authorized sales territories for the company’s carbon black products includes: AL, CT, DE, FL, GA,
KY, ME, MD, MA, MS, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI,
SC, TN, VT, VA and WV.
Clariant has expanded its North American distribution network by adding one distributor and
expanding the territory for another. Effective October
1, 2009, TH Hilson has been added as a distributor
in the Midwest. Also effective October 1, 2009, the
territory covered by PT Hutchins has expanded to
include the western and southeastern U.S.
Tronox LLC has appointed Dowd and Guild Inc.
to be their western region distributor for titanium
dioxide covering CA, WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, NV, AZ,
UT, and NM.
under the agreement, all 48 employees
will move to Clariant.

WINS EUROCLIP AWARD
Dow Coating Materials has been
awarded the Euroclip Award for best
presentation at Eurocoat 2009 Trade
Fair and Congress. Held this year in
Barcelona, September 29 through
October 1, the Euroclip competition is
an annual Eurocoat forum in which
participating companies present key
innovations on new technologies. Dr.

sented, “Chemical Industries: Trends
and Sustainability,” which focused on

EVONIK’S SHANGHAI
FACILITY GOES ON STREAM
Evonik Industries has brought its
Shanghai-based € 25 million-facility
fully on stream. The new site has an
annual capacity of approximately
100,000 metric tons of MMA, and
also includes plants for production of
methacrylic acid, butyl methacrylate,
hydroxy esters, specialty monomers,
polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)
molding compounds and thermoplastic methacrylate resins. The 25,000
square meter research center houses
laboratories for research, development, application, and technical service, and a pilot plant for polymer
technology. The Shanghai plant
employs 300 people.
