Supplier’s Corner Cognis launches Dehydran 2293 defoamer
Cognis has launched Dehydran 2293, a
new highly efficient defoamer that is
VOC-free for mid-range to high-end
paint formulations. Dehydran 2293 is a
universal and easy to handle defoamer
that is suitable for both architectural
and industrial paint and offers excellent
foam suppression, according to the company. Dehydran defoamers offer excellent long-term efficiency and compatibility with a range of high-gloss, highly pigmented paints and clear coatings.
Dehydran 2293 is partly derived from
renewable resources and is VOC-free,
odor-free and does not contain any petrochemical raw material-based solvents.
CYTEC LAUNCHES TANNIN BLOCKING
EMULSION FOR WOOD COATINGS
Cytec Industries Inc. has launched
Duroxyn VEF 2406 barrier primer and
Duroxyn EF 2107 liquid coating resins.
These products represent a new technology for effective tannin blocking coatings
without the use of reactive pigments.
These resins provide a platform for fast
drying coatings with excellent recoat
properties, according to the company.
The coatings are below 100g/L VOC and
still match or exceed performance properties of conventional solventborne tannin blocking primers.
CELANESE EMULSIONS
INTRODUCES MOWILITH LDM 1865
Celanese Emulsion Polymers has intro-
duced Mowilith LDM 1865, a new vinyl
acetate/ethylene (VAE) emulsion
designed for low VOC, exterior masonry
facade paint and plasters. Mowilith
LDM 1865 is designed to offer a low VOC
alternative for exterior paint and plas-
ters currently formulated with styrene-
acrylic, pure acrylic and vinyl versatate
emulsions. Paint and plasters made with
Mowilith LDM 1865 exhibit excellent
outdoor durability, good color retention
and low dirt pick up, according to the
company. The emulsion also imparts
good fire retardant properties to result-
ing formulations.
DOW CORNING
OFFERS 55N ADDITIVE
Dow Corning has introduced Dow
Corning 55N Additive, a performance-enhancing additive that brings excellent
abrasion resistance, leveling and slip to
clear and pigmented paints, coatings and
inks without generating excessive foam
or compromising the gloss or clarity of
the finished coating, according to the
company. 55N has also been found to
improve coating hardness and recoata-bility in certain water-based coating
applications. A reactive silicone glycol
surfactant with carbinol functionality,
Dow Corning 55N Additive performs
well in water-based, solvent-based and
UV-curable systems and is compatible
with a wide range of resins, including
alkyd, acrylic, epoxy and polyurethane.
ATLAS OFFERS FLUORESCENT
WEATHERING DEVICE
Atlas has launched a new fluorescent,
UV testing device for accelerated weathering. The Atlas UVTest has been
designed for economical weathering testing, offering easy to use features including touch screen operation and control,
pre-programmed and custom tests and
advanced calibration technology.
Additional features include best in class,
consistent distribution of irradiance and
temperature, improved ergonomic specimen retaining clips/rings for easier sample handling, adjustable height caster
and integrated bubble level and recirculation spray water option.
ADVANCED POLYMER INTRODUCES
API-278 STAIN BLOCKING POLISH
Advanced Polymer, Inc. has introduced
API-278 stain blocking polish. API-278 is
a water-based hybrid resin system that
provides deep penetrating, high gloss,
stain resistant finish for new densified
concrete surfaces, according to the com-
pany. API-278 forms a non-sacrificial
surface that can be buffed/burnished to a
high gloss. It can be used as the primary
coating or can serve as a protective layer
under traditional concrete polish sys-
tems. Surfaces coated with API-278
exhibit long lasting resistance to wear,
moisture and staining.
SUN CHEMICAL INTRODUCES
POLYMER ENCAPSULATED
ALUMINUM PIGMENTS
Sun Chemical Performance Pigments
launched its line of new Polymer
Encapsulated Aluminum Pigments into
the Chinese market for use in consumer
electronics, automotive trim and other
single coat applications that require a
high level of acid and base resistance or
non-conductivity. An expansion of the
SunMetallics aluminum pigment product line, these encapsulated aluminum
pigments are designed to maintain the
brilliance and gloss of the base pigments
while resisting tarnishing in areas that
are exposed to acidic or basic materials.
Additionally, the polymer encapsulation
makes the pigments less conductive
which is essential for the consumer electronics market. A full global launch is
scheduled for first quarter 2010. The
Polymer Encapsulated Aluminum
Pigments will be manufactured through
Sun Chemical’s joint venture with
Nantong DIC in Nantong, China.
SILBERLINE INTRODUCES
SILBERCOTE AQ STAR
Silberline’s new Silbercoate AQ Star
inhibited aluminum pigments are
designed for use in automotive OEM and
refinish waterborne coatings systems.
Silica is deposited onto the surface of the
aluminum flake producing a family of
pigments with gassing resistance and
stability in a range of metallic effects. CW
