Canada’s ShawCor Ltd., Bredero Shaw,
has entered into a joint venture agree-
ment with ArkhTekhnoProm, an affili-
ate of Mezhregiontruboprovodstroi, the
leading Russian offshore pipeline con-
tractor. The joint venture will establish a
pipe coating facility in the Arkhangelsk
Region, Russian Federation that will
provide advanced concrete weight coat-
ing services for the emerging northern
Russia offshore pipeline market. The
joint venture involves the formation of a
company owned 75% by Arkh-
TekhnoProm and 25% by Bredero Shaw
to provide concrete coating services at a
facility located at the Port of Arkh-
angelsk in the Russian Federation.
Bredero Shaw will lease one of its pro-
prietary mobile concrete coating plants
to the joint venture company and will
operate the plant under a technical serv-
ices agreement for an initial period of
four years. The first contract to be exe-
cuted by the joint venture involves con-
crete weight coating of 48” pipe for a
pipeline crossing of Baydaratskaya Bay
from the Yamal peninsula. This project
will commence during the second quar-
ter of 2010. It is expected that the
Arkhangelsk location will enable the
joint venture to undertake future pipe
coating projects related to Yamal penin-
sula pipeline development as well as
other offshore projects throughout the
Russian Federation.

NACE OPENS NEW OFFICE IN MALAYSIA
NACE has opened a new office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to meet the
needs of its growing member base there. “This is a very exciting move for
NACE,” said Mark Byerley, president, NACE International. “We do busi-
ness in more than 100 countries, but the Asian region in particular has
grown substantially and this office will allow NACE to provide better serv-
ice through local delivery to members who live there.” The Kuala Lumpur
office will be overseen by Astley Pung, manager, East Asia and Pacific Rim.
The new office is located at:
paints manufacturer, Tor Coatings has
invested £2 million in a state-of-the-
art aerosol manufacturing facility, cre-
ating over 150 jobs. The investment
allows the firm to manufacture and
market a new range of aerosol spray
paints under their parent company’s
name, Rust-Oleum. Tor’s objectives
were to produce a superior paint, deliv-
er genuine innovation, better packag-
ing and, crucially, to manufacture the
paint in Great Britain—something no
other supplier of mainstream, decora-
tive consumer spray paints to the UK
DIY sector presently does. Tor recog-
nized that one of the major issues sur-
rounding the UK spray paint supply
chain is the fact that the main players
import their products from territories
including the U.S. and Germany. The
new aerosol facility is a one-stop-shop
which allows Tor to make, fill and label
spray paints at a rate of 5,000 units an
hour. The rapid turnaround ensures
stock-outs are not an issue. The Birtley
site is now capable of producing 10 mil-
lion spray paints annually. The Rust-
Oleum paints are aimed at DIY enthu-
siasts with an interest in home
improvement and come in a range of
colors and finishes, including Metallic
and Textured. The flagship of the
range is Universal—an all-surface
spray paint. It is a very quick-drying
paint that can be applied to any sur-
face without the need for a primer.
