With 328 exhibitors and about 6,700 overall participants, the second edition of the American Coatings Show & Conference proved very successful. At the trade show,
exhibitors from 17 countries displayed a comprehensive range of
products on 68,100 square feet of space. Companies from abroad
accounted for 23 percent of the exhibitors, and in addition to the
United States, leading countries represented at the show included
China, Germany, Canada and India.
Well known throughout the coatings industry as the world’s
largest processor of recycled polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE),
Shamrock Technologies at the ACS 2010 promoted its lesser
known role as a suppler of premium PTFE for demanding
applications.
“Shamrock Technologies promoted our new range of
‘Premium PTFE’ products that complement our existing
nanoFLON and microFLON lines,” said Joon Choo, vice presi-
dent of Shamrock Technologies, Inc. “These products provide
outstanding performance in terms of abrasion, slip, rub and
mar resistance to coatings, inks and lubricant applications. We
also promoted our wax products that impart texture, matting,
water repellancy and slip properties.”
At ACS 2010 Reactive Surfaces, Ltd. (RSL) launched
DeGreez, an enzyme-based additive that degreases surfaces
exposed to fat and grease from vegetable and animal oils. Since
the enzyme acts catalytically, it is non-exhaustive and harm-
less to the environment.
“This functional additive will help to create self-degreasing
surfaces for use in industrial coatings, restaurant and gymna-
sium temporary coatings, and even anti-fingerprint for thin-
film display coatings,” said Steve McDaniel, chief innovation
officer for RSL. “Typical usage for this enzyme would be in coat-
ings for kitchen tabletops, furniture, floors, air ducting systems,
as well as specialty items such as computer screens, cell phone
displays and eyeglasses.”
At a time when “environmentally friendly” is in great
demand, paint and adhesive manufacturers are seeking effec-
tive answers to their product development challenges. That’s
why Celanese Emulsion Polymers invited the industry to take
a fresh look at vinyl-based technology to help deliver a new
generation of eco-friendly products high in performance and
low in environmental impact.
With a full line-up of new products on display at ACS,
Celanese demonstrated the value of vinyl-based emulsions for
a variety of applications. One of the key technologies visitors to
Celanese’s booth saw was an expansion in the EcoVAE series
of vinyl acetate/ethylene emulsions used in decorative coatings.
With the introduction of EcoVAE 405 and 408 at the show, this
line now offers a choice of products with superior performance
and increased capabilities.
