Dr. Conor M. Dowling, who leads the performance products
business unit of Taminco’s functional chemicals division.
“Vantex-T is cost-effective and multi-functional. It is an excel-
lent replacement for current paint neutralization systems as
well as a highly effective coalescing aid, providing for the reduc-
tion or complete elimination of coalescing solvents.”
Konica Minolta Sensing, a leader in the industrial measure-
ment of color showcased several of its technologies at the ACS.
Among the featured items was its new CM- 5 benchtop spec-
trophotometer for the paints and coatings industry. The CM- 5
is a full featured, highly accurate and a totally standalone
instrument that does not require a PC. In addition, the CM- 5
has a full range of advanced functions including specialized
indices for a variety of applications and a large color display
that makes results easy to read.
AeonClad Coatings promoted its AeonCoat technology, which
can help tailor PTFE or pigment surface chemistry with a low
power pulsed plasma deposition process that offers significant
benefits over a typical plasma etching process.
“Our technology can help make additives multifunctional by
combining several beneficial properties into a single additive,”
said William Strieber of AeonClad Coatings. “AeonCoat tech-
nology can help you transform the surface chemistry of your
product, allowing uses in applications never before possible, yet
still retaining the integral properties that make your product
valuable.”
For BASF the ACS 2010 was an opportunity to explore issues
of sustainability in depth with customers and other visitors
who wanted to share their opinions. To take advantage of the
broad coatings industry audience attending ACS 2010, BASF
conducted a survey on sustainability, covering topics that range
from products to business issues.

Nanoparticle/Polymer Interface on Hybrid Coatings Performance” by Xiaohung Gu (NIST) and her co-workers received the
Roon Award for Best Technical Paper. The first keynote address of the conference was titled “Sustainable Coatings Chemistry:
New Product Development through Partnership and Technical Innovation.” The paper was presented by Dennis Ryer (pictured
