Valspar patents high performance coating
Patent No. U.S. 7,834,086 B2
Valspar Sourcing, Inc. has been granted a
patent for a coating composition comprised
of water; a multistage latex polymer having
acetoacetoxy functionality; and at least approximately 0.25% weight and less than
10% weight, based on the weight of the
latex polymer, of a silane coupling agent
that provides improved resistance to delamination from a cement substrate when a
coating made from the composition is exposed for one hour at 60° C to 1,034 kPa
pressure from an automotive tire tread section heated to 60° C, wherein the silane coupling agent does not contain a functional
group capable of reacting with another
component of the coating composition.
the vinyl oligomer-polymer (B) is comprised
of 15% to 50% weight of at least one alkaline soluble oligomer (iii); and 85% to 50%
weight of at least one vinyl polymer (iv) having a Tg in the range of from −20° to 30° C.;
based on the total weight of (iii) and (iv).
Sun Chemical patents stir-in
pigments for energy curable
systems
Patent No. U.S. 7,819,968 B2
Sun Chemical Corporation has obtained a
patent for a dry colorant composition which
is a combination of pigment, inert carrier
and rheological additive having the struc-
ture: P—(U—Y)s. Wherein P is the residue
of an organic colorant, Y is a polyalkylene
oxide or polyalkylene moiety, U is a linking
moiety covalently bonding Y to P, and s is
an integer from 1 to 3, and wherein the
combination is a dry solid composition
functional second monomer having a second
functional group wherein the first and sec-
ond functional groups will react with each
other but not themselves, wherein formation
of the highly branched polymer is free of self-
condensation of the polyfunctional first
monomer, and free of self-condensation of
the polyfunctional second monomer.
DSM patents aqueous vinyl
coating
Patent No. U.S. 7,833,584 B2
DSM IP Assets B.V. has obtained a patent for
an aqueous coating composition comprised
of a blend of 20% to 60% weight of a multistage vinyl polymer (A) and 80% to 40%
weight of a vinyl oligomer-polymer (B) based
on the total weight of (A) and (B); wherein
the multistage vinyl polymer (A) is comprised
of 5% to 40% weight of at least one hard
polymer stage (i) having a Tg> 50° C; and
95% to 60% weight of at least one soft polymer stage (ii) having a Tg<− 5° C; based on
the total weight of (i) and (ii); and wherein
PPG patents polymer additves
for powder coatings
Patent No. U.S. 7,816,451 B2
PPG Industries has received a patent for a
compound that is comprised of the reaction
product of a highly branched polymer having
terminal amine functional groups and a lactam, wherein the highly branched polymer is
the step-growth polymerization reaction
product of a polyfunctional first monomer
having a first functional group and a poly-
Illinois Tool Works patents
resin-based fluorescent paint
Patent No. U.S. 7,820,755 B2
Illinois Tool Works, Inc. has been awarded a
patent for a resin based fluorescent paint for
marking items comprised of a polyurethane
resin present in a concentration of approximately 55% to 65% weight of the paint; a
solvent for and compatible with the resin
present in a concentration of 5% to 10%
weight of the paint; a gelative additive present in a concentration of 1% to 5% weight
of the paint; a rheological additive present in
a concentration of 1% to 5% weight of the
paint; an anti-skinning additive present in a
concentration of 1% to 5% weight of the
paint; a fluorescent pigment present in a concentration of 20% to 30% weight of the
paint; a synthetic drier in a concentration of
less than 1% weight of the paint; and a wetting agent in a concentration of less than 1%
weight of the paint.
Reactive Surfaces patent portfolio expands further
Reactive Surfaces has received allowance of patents directed to its anti-microbial pep-tide-based ProteCoat technology in both Australia and the United States. The claims for
the patents varied based on specific peptide sequences, but are generally directed to
paints comprising a binder, such as found in an acrylic latex. Depending upon the jurisdiction, coverage was granted for multicoat systems, architectural, industrial, or specification coatings, as well as combinations of the Protecoat technology with various
chemical-based preservatives. Additionally, Reactive Surfaces has received grants for
patents in Israel on its OPDtox self-decontaminating coatings technology. The claims are
directed to both film forming coatings (paints, clear coatings) and non-film forming coatings having enzymes capable of providing decontamination organophosphorus-based
pesticides and chemical warfare agents (VX, soman, sarin, cyclosarin, tabun) from surfaces
upon application of the coatings.
Heubach patents rutile-based
pigment
Patent No. U.S. 7,824,487 B2
Heubach GmbH has received a patent for
pigment particles consisting essentially of uncoated inorganic nickel- antimony rutile yellow having a color saturation c* of 52 to 55
at a color hue angle h of 96° to 98° according to testing under DIN 5033, and a particle size distribution with a diameter range
between 50 and 1000 nm, which in case of
a mono-, bi-, tri- or oligomodal maxima distribution has a maximum between 230 and
430 nm, and a secondary maximum of less
than 25% of the primary maximum in a diameter range between 400 and 1000 nm in
case ofbi- or oligomodal distribution. CW
