Cortec’s new VpCI-380 is a fluoropolymer modified water-based
acrylic, designed specifically for the railway industry. Using a
mixture of nontoxic, organic inhibitors VpCI-380 can replace
most primer and topcoat systems with corrosion protection in
just one coat, the company said. VpCI-380 is a flexible solution
to use alone or in conjunction with Cortec VpCI-395 primer and
can be applied by spray, flow coat, brush or dip.
VpCI-380 Railcar Coating adheres to a wide variety of substrates including ferrous and nonferrous metals and many engineered plastics; its hardness and moisture resistance make it an
ideal air-dry/force-dry industrial coating. VpCI-380 offers a nonflammable, UV resistant barrier from the elements with a fast-drying/high gloss finish. It also exhibits excellent outdoor
performance, resisting chipping or cracking in prolonged exposure to sunlight.
VpCl-380 is designed for the railway industry.
PPG introduces ULTRAX low-temperature
immersion cleaners
PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business introduced Ultrax
LT5620 and Ultrax LT5630 low-temperature immersion cleaners, which are designed to remove soils and contaminants from
metal surfaces in immersion or dip cleaning processes. The products follow commercially successful Ultrax 7610, 7620 and 7630
low-temperature spray cleaners, which PPG introduced in 2009.
Unlike conventional cleaners that work at temperatures of 120
to 180 degrees Farenheit, Ultrax LT5620 and LT5630 immersion cleaners can perform at temperatures as low as 85 degrees
Farenheit and will work well on most soils at 100 degrees Farenheit. Ultrax low-temperature cleaners offer the following benefits: lower energy usage; lower water consumption (less water
evaporation); safer work environment (less exposure to hot
chemicals); improved parts appearance, with less streaking, mottling and dried-on cleaner residue; exceptional rinsing that helps
parts stay “wet” longer; and reduced chance of flash rusting between process stages. Ultrax immersion cleaners are solvent-free,
low-phosphate and designed for use with PPG zirconium, zinc
and iron pretreatment products. CW

Possibilities
When seemingly impossible cost, performance
and regulatory objectives pose the most
daunting formulating challenge, formulators
turn to the Brilliant Additions portfolio. These
all-natural fillers facilitate environmentally
“green” trade paints and consumer friendly
labeling while improving performance,
appearance, and production efficiency.
