RPM to acquire leading German EIFS company
RPM International Inc. announced that its
RPM Building Solutions Group (RPM
BSG) has signed an agreement to acquire
FEMA Farben + Putze GmbH (FEMA
GmbH) of Ettlingen, Germany. FEMA
GmbH, with annual sales of more than
USD $40 million, is a manufacturer and
supplier of external insulating and finishing systems (EIFS) and complementary
product lines to the German and French
construction markets.
“The addition of FEMA’s EIFS product
line immediately enhances our capabilities
to address the market for energy efficient
and sustainable high-performance buildings in Germany, the current number one
marketplace for EIFS in the world, and
France, one of the fastest growing markets
for EIFS. It also provides a platform to extend FEMA’s product systems through existing RPM subsidiary companies into
other European countries,” said Frank Sullivan, RPM chairman and chief executive.
“FEMA’s energy efficient cladding
complements our Tremco illbruck building sealing technologies, allowing us to
serve a larger portion of the market for
energy efficient buildings,” said Reiner
Eisenhut, president and managing director of RPM BSG Europe.
FEMA GmbH will operate as a stand-alone business within RPM BSG Europe in
conjunction with Tremco illbruck and the
FEMA GmbH existing management team,
which was developed by Heinz Fedder,
founder and CEO, who will continue with
the company in a consulting capacity.
Airbus qualifies AkzoNobel

AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings announced the qualification at Airbus of
their Aerobase base coat and clear coat

successfully at Airbus, according to specification AIMS 04.04.033 and AIMS
04.04.037.
In addition to the standard AIMS
04.04.033 base coat/clear coat system
specification, AIMS 04.04.037 includes a
selectively removable system (SRS). SRS
incorporates an extra sealer coat between
primer and base coat which allows the
selective removal of only the base
coat/clear coat system in preparation for
repainting. This avoids the need to reapply the primer and so results in further
time and cost savings during maintenance of the aircraft.
With a focus on sustainable coatings,
cutting drying times and saving costs by
shortening the application process, Aerobase offers a high quality finish and reduces paint usage meaning it is an efficient
and environmentally progressive paint solution. The paint system has been developed in line with one of Airbus’ key
objectives to produce aircraft that are
friendlier to the environment and more
eco-efficient.
AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings’ Aerobase system only requires one coat per
color and one layer of clear coat, resulting in reduced paint usage. This, coupled
with a dramatically reduced drying time,
which helps to reduce energy consumption and labor costs, allow the aircraft to
leave the paint facility with a good looking and durable decorative finish.
Benjamin Moore inaugurates
sustainable fleet
Benjamin Moore has inaugurated use of
three new Ryder tractor-trailer trucks that
run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
Exclusively servicing Southern California,
these additions to the company’s fleet emit
25 percent less greenhouse gases than
other vehicles.
The tractors have been made available
through Ryder’s natural gas vehicle project agreement with the San Bernardino
Associated Governments in Southern California. The $38.7 million joint project is
part of a public/private partnership between the transportation solutions company, the U.S. Department of Energy, the
California Energy Commission and the
Southern California Association of Governments Clean Cities Coalition.

“Benjamin Moore’s commitment to
sustainability pervades every department
in the company, and this opportunity to
ensure cleaner air reinforces our Green
Promise in a way most people don’t think
about—shipping our eco-responsible
paint products in one of the most eco-responsible ways possible,” said Mike
Woods, director of logistics, woods, credits Benjamin Moore’s regional logistics
manager Ron Widner with spearheading
the program in which dozens of other
major companies are now involved.
“It was a chance to get in on the
ground floor of a transportation and environmental innovation that’s only going
to grow here in California and then across
