Troy introduces two high performance
defoamers for aqueous systems
Troy Corporation has introduced two new
defoamers—Troykyd D742 and D745.
The two new defoamers offer a cost-effective solution to foam-related issues across
many applications said the company. For
example D742 and D745 are touted to
provide excellent foam elimination while
effectively maintaining surface properties
such as appearance and gloss.
More specifically Troykyd D742 provides excellent air release in a wide range
of aqueous applications, including wood
finishes, architectural latex paints, industrial enamels, inks and overprint varnishes. The product is effective at low
concentrations said the company.
Troykyd D745 offers effective air release performance in high shear applications, such as overprint varnishes, inks,
adhesives and wood coatings. The product eliminates microfoam while maintaining excellent film appearance.
New Ross laboratory
ribbon/paddle blender
Ross has introduced a new Ribbon
Blender Model, the 42NSD-1S, a multipurpose unit equipped with interchangeable double ribbon and paddle agitators.
With a maximum working capacity of
one cubic foot, the 42NSD-1S is ideal for
most laboratory and pilot-scale blending
requirements. This vacuum-rated blender
also comes with a discharge extruder assembly installed along the bottom of the
trough to enhance mixing, eliminate
dead zones and enable 100 percent complete discharge.
Ross Ribbon Blenders are used for
blending dry powders, granules, pellets and
other solid forms. The agitator’s inner and
outer helical ribbons are pitched to move
material axially, in opposing directions,
and also radially. This combination promotes fast and thorough blending. Paddle
agitators deliver gentler mixing which is
more suited for shear-sensitive and friable
applications. Both systems also function as
paste mixers, vacuum dryers and granula-tors/coaters - evenly coating a liquid or
very fine solid component throughout the
surfaces of larger particle ingredients.
Arkema Coating Resins
introduces Celocor opaque
polymer for partial
replacement of TiO2
Arkema Coating Resins has introduced
Celocor opaque polymer, a voided latex
product that imparts hiding and functions
as a partial replacement for titanium dioxide (TiO2).
The company said when compared to
competitive opacifiers with similar functionality, Celocor opaque polymer offers
a more balanced approach to performance attributes such as tint strength,
gloss development, burnish resistance
and scrub resistance.
Celocor opaque polymer can help reduce raw material costs and improve hiding in a wide range of products, including
interior or exterior coatings from flat to
semigloss. Additionally, this product
meets the standards of Arkema Coating
Resins EnVia program and is designed to
help formulators achieve
their sustainability and
regulatory goals in finished coating products.
Celocor opaque polymer has low odor, contains no added APE
surfactants or formaldehyde and is compatible
with low VOC (0-50 g/l)
formulations.
Dow Coating Materials offers
dimethyl carbonate pre-mix for
low-VOC concrete coatings
Dow Coating Materials has introduced
Paraloid B- 66 thermoplastic acrylic resin
in dimethyl carbonate (DMC), a pre-mix
that is ideal for low-VOC concrete sealers.
Dow said the Paraloid B- 66 acrylic resin
family of products features the benefits of
ultra-low VOC as supplied, while providing a lower-cost alternative to VOC-ex-empt products in t-butyl acetate or
PCBTF. Forming clear solutions, which
air-dry fast to form hard, colorless films
displaying block resistance and color retention, the new DMC offering affords
coatings manufacturers equal performance with the added advantage of facilitating VOC compliance said the company.
Paraloid B- 66 DMC also exhibits moderate evaporation rates and should give similar solvent compatibility as Paraloid B- 66
resins in xylene and toluene.
In addition to Paraloid B- 66 DMC,
Dow Coating Materials offers a full
range of solutions for concrete coatings,
including Maincote HG- 31, a water-borne acrylic for cementitious substrates
where water barrier properties are important, as well as a variety of Rhoplex
Resins to meet performance needs such
as good exterior weatherability, reduced
water vapor permeability, dirt resistance,
low solvent capability, low odor and
APEO-free, being manufactured without
the use of APEO surfactants.
Cytec offers eco-friendly epoxy
dispersion
Cytec Industries Inc. now offers a new solvent-free waterborne epoxy dispersion
that allows for formulating very low VOC
systems for topcoat and primer applications on metal and concrete. The Beck-opox EP 2384w/57WA resin, has been
specifically developed to meet the needs of
the protective market for a 2-pack and
solvent-free resin, in order to comply with
the most recent regulations. CW
