In food environments, wide
temperature swings occurring in a
short period of time such as during
hot water discharges from boilers,
kitchen equipment or steam cleaning can have an adverse effect on
the adhesion of synthetic flooring
materials. By having a coefficient
of thermal expansion similar to
concrete substrates, Poly-Crete systems virtually eliminate the risks
the company said. And the Poly-Crete system helps facility owners
avoid the risk of floor failure that’s
typically caused by surface erosion
from chemicals, lactic acids and
food-borne bacteria, commonly
found in food environments.
high traffic areas, such as
public spaces and escape
routes in residential and
non-residential buildings,
are required to meet Class O, the
highest level of fire safety perform-
ance. While multiple layers of ex-
isting paint can contribute to fire
growth and spread, the Pyroshield
range works in three ways—first, it
reduces the amount of oxygen
available to the fire. Second, when
exposed to heat, Pyroshield takes
in oxygen and releases steam,
which cools the heat of the fire.
Third, it creates a thermally stable
char, which forms a barrier be-
tween the flames and the flamma-
ble sub-layers.
Building on the technology behind the
current Pyroshield range, Dulux Trade has
created a new formulation, which allows
for the easier removal of stains and marks,
thus extending maintenance cycles.
“Alongside meeting required levels of
fire performance, maintenance professionals are also challenged to achieve excellent standards of durability, especially
in busy circulation areas,” said Emeka
Maduka, brand manager for specialist
products at Dulux Trade. “To meet these
needs, Pyroshield Durable Eggshell offers
good adhesion, meaning it provides a robust, decorative finish which can be
washed allowing for the easier removal of
stains.
“When developing Pyroshield Durable
Eggshell, we’ve considered the time and
design pressures faced by maintenance
professionals too,” said Maduka. “In fact,
the coating provides a Class O finish in
just two coats, saving valuable time and
resources, and with the introduction of
the product in Pure Brilliant White and a
light base, it can be purchased in a wide
range of pale colors, giving extensive color
scheming flexibility.”
Pyroshield Durable Eggshell joins the
existing range of Dulux Trade flame re-
tardant paints, including Pyroshield
Basecoat, which when used as part of a
system can upgrade surfaces from a Class
4 to Class O rating, and Pyroshield
Durable Matt. The new Eggshell finish is
available in 5l tints. CW
The topcoat formulation gives urethane flooring a continuous,
competitive edge in food, pharma and chemical industries.
NEI offers a nanocoating that
enhances corrosion resistance
of zinc-plated and HDG steel
NEI Corporation introduced a nanotech-nology-enabled, two-layer coating that
improves the corrosion resistance of zinc-plated and hot-dip galvanized (HDG)
steel. The NEI coating is a drop-in replacement for trivalent chromium. The
coating process consists of first applying
Nanomyte PT-100, a self-healing conversion coating, followed by Nanomyte TC-
5001. The latter is a barrier coating,
designed to work synergistically with PT-
100. Both PT-100 and TC-5001 are liquid coating formulations that are
amenable to dip coating, brushing, and
spray coating. The new Nanomyte coating technology is designed to protect
zinc-plated and galvanized steel surfaces
from rusting under severe environmental
and operating conditions.
In salt-fog exposure experiments
(ASTM B117), Nanomyte -coated, zinc-plated steel panels showed no white rust
after 840 hours; no red rust was observed
even after 1200 hours the company said.
In contrast, non-coated, zinc-plated panels exhibited white rust in 24 hours and
red rust after 168 hours in the salt-fog
chamber. Salt-spray testing can be used in
conjunction with field testing and online
life predictors for coatings on HDG, as
prescribed by the American Galvanizers
Association (AGA).
The new technology is part of NEI’s ef-
forts to develop corrosion resistant coat-
ing systems, including pretreatments,
primers and topcoats that protect steel,
aluminum and magnesium from corro-
sion. The coatings are economical, easy to
use, and provide excellent corrosion re-
sistance compared to state-of-the art of-
ferings. “Our thin, double coat solution
for zinc-plated and HDG steel represents
a significant advancement in the state-of-
the-art that could eliminate the need for
using thicker primers and topcoats,” said
Dr. Fred Allen, president of the anticorro-
sion coatings division at NEI Corpora-
tion. “The market focused activities of
NEI are a key to serving the needs of cus-
tomers who require high-performance an-
ticorrosion coatings. Our goal is to engage
customers as partners in developing new
corrosion-resistant coating products.”
Dulux Trade adds Pyroshield
Durable Eggshell to its range
of flame retardant coatings
Dulux Trade is giving specifiers greater
choice when it comes to addressing fire
safety regulations, with the launch of Pyroshield Durable Eggshell. Extending its
existing Pyroshield range of flame retardant coatings, Dulux Trade has unveiled
a new water-based, highly scuff and stain
resistant finish, which is designed to upgrade surface fire classification from Class
3 to Class O of Approved Document B to
the Building Regulations, as measured by
British Standard BS 476-10:2009.
