Ross offers tilted design
double planetary mixers
Charles Ross and Son has introduced new
double planetary mixers with a slightly
tilted configuration for more effective and
complete discharge of flowable products.
Double planetary mixers are versatile
equipment used in the preparation of pastes
and gels, as well as
granulations and
free-flowing dried
powder blends.
Pictured is a 15-
gallon Double
Planetary Mixer
designed to operate at approximately a 5-degree
top forward tilt.
An air/oil hydraulic lift is supplied to raise/lower the stirrers into the removable vacuum-rated mix
can. During mixing, a glass sight/charge
port and tank light on the vacuum hood
allow the operator to check on the batch
and conveniently add raw materials without interrupting the agitation. Stainless steel
316 rectangular stirrer blades are driven by
a 5 HP inverter-duty motor. Detachable
sidewall and bottom scrapers are also supplied. The 50-psig heating/cooling jacket on
the vessel is insulated and sheathed in stainless steel. Batch temperature is measured
from a thermowell with an RTD thermocouple on the side of the mix can. After the
mixing cycle, product is discharged through
a 3” diameter Teflon plug installed via
heavy-duty tri-clover clamps towards the
front of the mix can. The raised base provides a 28” clearance beneath the outlet and
is suitable for 12” dia. receiving vessels.
Oxea launches two phthalate-free, low migration plasticizers
Oxea has launched its latest additions to
the Oxsoft product range of phthalate-free and non-VOC plasticizers. Marketed
under the names Oxsoft Duo 1 and Oxsoft Duo 2, the new products are specifically designed to help manufacturers
tackle the challenges concerning migra-
tion of plasticizers. Their low migration
properties are aimed at increasing the
quality and sustainability of end products
while their processing properties are further improved, according to the company.
Oxsoft Duo is recommended in applications such as the production of wall coverings, floorings, roofings and artificial
leather. It is already commercially available with samples available for testing.
Oxsoft Duo 1 features an excellent migration profile combined with low viscosity for good processability and better than
normal cold temperature properties. Oxsoft Duo 2 gives prominence to a further
improved migration profile compared to
Oxsoft Duo 1 and has a very good fogging number, but remains easy to process.
It is recommended in applications where
migration is a concern, but where high viscosity products could cause process issues.
Troy’s Powdermate EX2099
renamed 575FL
Troy Corporation announced that its performance powder coating additive formerly
known as Powdermate EX2099 has been
renamed Powdermate 575FL. The new
name represents the next generation in flow
and leveling, enabling the production of
pigmented coatings with uncompromised
gloss and topcoats with exceptional clarity
the company said. The high performance
additive helps coatings to resist cratering,
orange peel, and hazing, thereby providing
a defect-free surface appearance. 575FL
further provides excellent recoatability, in-tercoat adhesion, and delamination resistance. 575FL is effective in both thermal and
UV-cured systems and is compatible with
all commercial resin systems.
Cytonix offers FluoroPel
PFC1740G fluorosurfactant for
wood care products
Cytonix, LLC introduced its newest fluorosurfactant, FluoroPel PFC1740G. Designed
to provide excellent flow, leveling, wetting
and surface tension reduction to hydrocar-
bon-based solvent formulations, PFC1740G
is an ideal additive for wood care products,
such as wood conditioners, lane conditioners, printing inks, paints, coatings, and
cleaning products the company said. In addition, PFC1740G acts as a foaming agent
for kerosene, diesel and hydrocarbons, making it is an effective oil well stimulation additive. Poor wetting, spreading, and leveling
are characteristics of a coating system that
can often lead to common defects such as
“fish eyes”, “craters”, “orange peel”, and
“picture frames”. Not only do fluorosurfactants reduce or altogether prevent these
defects, their exceptionally low surface tension also allows coating systems to overcome low surface tension contaminants,
such as silicone, grease, and oil on the substrate. In short, the lower the surface tension
the coating system, the better the wetting,
spreading, and leveling effects. FluoroPel
PFC1740G fills the void left by the withdrawal of 3M FC-430 and DuPont Zontl
FSG fluorosurfactants from the market the
company said. While companies are moving
toward aqueous coatings, there is still a high
demand for effective surfactants for hydro-carbon-based solvent coatings. PFC1740G
provides performance that only a fluorosurfactant can produce in many non-polar solvent-based applications. Typical of
fluorosurfactants, PFC1740G is effective at
very low concentrations, typically less than
two percent by weight in hydrocarbon-based solvent applications.
Elementis launches DAPRO DF
5800F defoamer
Elementis has launched DAPRO DF 5800F,
an aromatic-free, general purpose defoamer
used in industrial solvent-borne coatings. It
is suitable for aromatic-free applications.
DAPRO DF 5800F prevents foaming
caused by mechanical forces during mixing,
production and application. It enables foam
release from the applied coating and reduces fish-eyes, pinholes, cratering and
other surface defects. DAPRO DF 5800F is
highly compatible with most systems. CW
