Hempel acquires Blome International
Danish-based Hempel has acquired protective linings and coatings manufacturer
Blome International of O’Fallon, Mo.,
through its U.S.-based affiliate, Hempel
(USA), Inc. The deal is in line with
Hempel’s plan to significantly grow its
protective coatings business in the U.S.

our aggressive plan to continue to grow
the oil and gas, food and beverage, and
power segments in North America,” said
Lars Johansen, Hempel Group vice presi-
dent, Americas. “Blome International has
a solid reputation in the market, a very
dedicated and experienced staff and inno-
vative coating solutions.”

ACA issues Call for Papers
The American Coatings Association
(ACA) is seeking technical papers and stu-
dent posters for its CoatingsTech Confer-
ence to be held March 11-13, 2013 at the
Hyatt Rosemont in Rosemont, Ill. This bi-
ennial conference features a multi-track
forum, industry awards, and presentation
opportunities, and offers industry experts
a forum for sharing new research. The
CoatingsTech Conference theme is,
“Leaps and Bounds: Re-energizing the
Coatings Industry,” underscoring the im-
portance of continued innovation in the
coatings industry through education and
networking. The conference will be the
embodiment of this theme, enabling
coatings manufacturers, their suppliers,
universities, and government representa-
tives to share ideas and continue to grow
and propel the industry by great leaps
and greater bounds. In addition to sub-
missions for the CoatingsTech Confer-
ence, ACA is seeking submissions for
several Coatings Tech paper/poster com-
petitions, including the Roon Award,
John A. Gordon Best Paper Award, ACA
Student Presenter Award, and Student

PPG and Asian Paints receive
approval to expand India
coatings joint venture
PPG Industries has received the neces-
sary approvals from Indian authorities
to expand its coatings joint venture and
also to create a second joint venture with
Asian Paints Ltd., India’s largest coatings
company. PPG and Asian Paints will ex-
pand their current 50-50 joint venture,
Mumbai-based Asian PPG Industries, to
now serve India’s industrial liquid, ma-
rine, consumer packaging and trans-
portation coatings customers. PPG and
Asian Paints also will form a second 50-
50 joint venture, Asian Paints PPG Lim-
ited, to serve protective, industrial
powder, industrial container and light in-
dustrial coatings customers. PPG will
