vibrations and noise. New Pres-On VF
tapes are ideal for use in the automotive, appliance, construction, HVAC
and general assembly industries. Their
closed-cell polyvinyl foam design is
available in several densities including
Sof-Seal, low, medium and high. All
VF tapes are resistant to most industrial solvents and chemicals. The tapes
come reverse-wound for easier liner
removal and installation. The water-based acrylic exhibits good initial tack,
high shear and excellent resistance to
plasticizers common in PVC foam and
other substrates.
VF tapes can be ordered on 52-inch
width rolls in thicknesses ranging from
1/16-inch up to 3/4-inch. Custom sizes
are also available.
International Paint
Launches Next Generation
Polysiloxane Finish Coat in
North America
International Paint LLC, an AkzoNobel
business, has announced the launch of
Interfine 1080 in North America; a next
generation low volatile organic compounds (VOC) acrylic polysiloxane finish
coat that offers high-level performance in
a single-pack formulation.
The patented technology was developed to provide a better aesthetic, environmental and cost-saving alternative to
traditional two-pack polysiloxane and
polyurethane topcoats, according to the
company. Interfine 1080 contains no free
isocyanates and can be easily brushed or
rolled in a variety of on-site and maintenance applications where high-quality
cosmetic finishes are required, such as
storage tank externals, pipelines, railings,
structural steel and miscellaneous commercial infrastructure applications.
PPG Introduces Dragonhide
Heavy-Duty Polyurea
Protective Coatings
PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business has added Dragonhide heavy-duty
coatings to its lineup of polyurea-based
protective coatings for trucks, commercial vehicles, heavy-duty equipment
and other demanding applications.
DragonHide heavy-duty coatings are
designed to solve the toughest coatings
challenges. Developed as a value alternative to extreme-duty Durabull coatings,
which are based on a similar chemistry,
DragonHide coatings are well-suited to
protect beds, cabs, bumpers, step guards
and body and underbody parts for pickup trucks, tow trucks, dump trucks, buses,
trailers and heavy-duty equipment used
in agriculture, forestry and construction.
DragonHide coatings, which are available in eight standard colors with color
matching available, also are ideal for
trailer interiors or applications such as
stair treads and walkways in buses with
available non-slip aggregate. Because of
their elastomeric nature, coatings based
on polyurea resins such as DragonHide
and DuraBull coatings can withstand
more impact, chipping, abrasion and
gouging than other tough coating technologies, according to the company.
A proprietary resin blend and patented cross-linker developed by PPG enable the coatings to cure rapidly, which
makes them much more tolerant to
moisture during the curing process than
typical urethane coatings. Consequently,
they can be applied on the production
line or in the field with a reduced risk of
defects caused by moisture and humidity.
DragonHide and DuraBull coatings are
made without solvents, so they are nonflammable and free of volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air
pollutants (HAPs). They also offer an
environmental advantage by eliminating
the need to bake parts after coatings are
applied, which reduces energy use during
the coating process.
Silent Running Adds to
Product Line With SR CAR
Silent Running recently added SR CAR,
a high performance liquid coating used
to dampen vibration, reduce unwanted
road noise and improve stereo quality to
its product line. Unlike the other sound
deadening products, SR CAR requires
no cutting, fitting or peeling and there is
no scrap, according to the company. The
product has excellent adhesion and is designed as a permanent coating that can
be painted over. Silent Running is a high
performance, viscoelastic coating used to
dampen vibration and reduce
unwanted noise. SR CAR can
easily be sprayed, rolled on, or
painted to wheel wells, rocker
and door panels, trunks, firewalls, and all
interior surfaces for a quiet ride.

BASF Unveils ONYX HD,
Low VOC Fast-dry Solvent-
borne Basecoat System
BASF has launched a new, low volatile
organic compound (VOC), fast-dry solvent-borne basecoat system, the ONYX
HD Low VOC Productive System, in the
U.S. and Canadian markets. This new
system produces low VOC basecoats
that are either waterborne or solvent-borne – the only system currently on
the market that provides these options,
according to the company. The system
offers similar benefits and performance
to national rule solvent-borne basecoat
systems, and meets all VOC regulations
across North America.
The product is easy to spray, offers
enhanced de-nibbing, and dries quickly
under common humidity and temperature conditions compared to other systems, according to the company. Several
collision repair centers have tested the
new system, and reported significant decreases in drying times leading to more
repairs in less time, which can result in
increased profits. CW
