Volunteers from PPG and
representatives from each organization will make repairs and
paint at the four project sites.
The project schedule is as follows:
Aug. 6 – YWCA Homewood-Brushton
Aug. 9-10 – Propel Pitcairn
Aug. 20 – Jeron X. Grayson
Community Center
Aug. 25 – Boys & Girls Club
Pittsburgh muralist Lynne Mack will
work with several of the nonprofit orga-
nizations to create unique murals using
brightly colored PPG PAINTS products.
“We work with recipient organiza-
tions to determine the best colors for their
sites – we even offer PPG design experts’
services for color consultations,” Sloan
said. “We estimate that among the four
Pittsburgh-area sites, our volunteers will
apply about 100 gallons of paint to coat
more than 20,000 square feet of hallways,
classrooms and programming space. It’s a
lot of fun for everyone involved.”
Sloan said PPG plans to invest between
$50,000 and $100,000 for Colorful
Communities efforts in its Pittsburgh
headquarters community annually, com-
plementing grants made through the PPG
Foundation and PPG corporate support
for many Pittsburgh cultural and sports
organizations.
Other areas slated to benefit from
the Colorful Communities program in
2016 are Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and
Cleveland in the U.S., as well as communities in Canada, Brazil, Mexico,
Korea, China, New Zealand, the
United Kingdom, the Czech Republic,
France, Hungary and Denmark.

PPG Completes COLORFUL
COMMUNITIES Project at
Sonora, Mexico, Orphanage
PPG completed a COLORFUL
COMMUNITIES project that helped to
beautify Bethel, an orphanage that cares
for around 30 children in San Luis Río
Colorado. PPG Comex employees joined
additional volunteers to help revitalize
spaces used by Bethel residents, and PPG
provided $20,000 including paints and
supplies to fund the project.
At the Bethel orphanage, more than
45 PPG Comex volunteers and representatives from a charitable group made repairs and painted. Mexican muralist Jose
Manuel Gómez González worked to create a unique mural using brightly colored
COMEX paint products, inviting the
children to help create a beautiful space.
After completing the hard work, volunteers held a party for the children.
“Adding color to a building really
changes the life of the people who live
there, and we are very pleased to have
the opportunity to help,” said Lidya
Fresnedo, PPG Comex representative
for the Colorful Communities program. “We’re excited that the Colorful
Communities program is bringing smiles
to our employees and our neighbors in
Mexico. The main goal is to beautify the
neighborhoods we call ‘home’ by investing in them, especially where the need is
great. Additionally, the projects encourage
volunteerism, which builds our employees’ morale and empowers them to create
positive change in their communities.”
Axalta North America
Launches Refinish
Sustainable Star Awards
Axalta Coating Systems has launched
the Axalta Sustainable Star Awards
program for body shops who use sustainable practices. The launch follows
Axalta’s recent release of its 2014-2015
Sustainability Report.
As a coatings company, we produce
products that are designed to improve
durability, increase productivity and add
beauty, while reducing our environmental
footprint and reducing our energy intensity rate. Sustainability is central to virtually everything we do. It is an important
aspect of our corporate vision, and we
firmly believe that many of our customers
share this sentiment.
The Sustainable Star Awards are open
to U.S.-based Axalta refinish customers.
The Awards recognize body shops who
have demonstrated the positive impact
that sustainable initiatives can have on
both the bottom line and the environment. There are two competition categories. The first category is for body shop
owners who own one to five body shops.
The second category is for body shop
owners who own six or more shops.
“We know that many of our customers
value sustainable practices and want to do
their part to be environmentally-respon-sible,” said Mike Carr, Axalta President-North America. “Our Sustainable Star
Awards program seeks to recognize shops
that have put in place processes to improve their cycle times, cut their electrical
bills by finding efficiencies, increased staff
training hours, or have taken some other
action that promotes sustainability.” CW
