BASF is broadening its portfolio f UV resins to include five new standard epoxy acrylates from the
Laromer EA product family. The binders
are used for UV-curable coatings for the
furniture and flooring industry as well
as for overprint varnishes and printing
inks. They are characterized by high
reactivity and chemical resistance and
make coatings and printing inks particularly durable.
“With the new UV resins we continue
to focus on radiation-curing technologies
and offer our customers an even broader
range of products for the formulation
of coatings and printing inks,” said Ulf
Neidlein, vice president, who is responsible for BASF’s resin and additive business
in Europe. To meet the increasing demand
for UV acrylates, BASF had announced
its expansion of existing production facilities in Europe in June 2016.
The five new UV resins include:
• Laromer EA 9138 (75% standard
epoxy acrylate in 25% TPGDA)
• Laromer EA 9143 (75% standard
epoxy acrylate in 25% GPTA)
• Laromer EA 9124 (80% standard
epoxy acrylate in 20% HDDA)
• Laromer EA 9082 (70% standard
epoxy acrylate in 30% TPGDA)
• Laromer EA 9145 (70% standard
epoxy acrylate in 30% DPGDA).
Evonik Develops New PEEK
Powders for Tribological
Coatings
The innovative polyether ether ketone
(PEEK) powders VESTAKEEP developed
by Evonik significantly reduce the wear
and tear of components in demanding
industrial applications, according to the
firm. The PEEK powders of Evonik’s
VESTAKEEP brand are particularly suit-
able for applications that are subject to
extreme mechanical, thermal and chemi-
cal requirements. The coating material
is able to withstand permanent operat-
ing temperatures of up to 250°C and is
characterized by its unique ability to re-
sist abrasion and chemicals.
Thanks to the excellent tribological performance of coatings made from
specially developed VESTAKEEP powders , the friction between sliding surfaces is significantly reduced, which in
turn increases efficiency and economy
of operation – for example lower fuel
consumption and lower carbon dioxide emissions in combustion engines,
extended service life of bearings, or
higher turbine speeds. These special
VESTAKEEP coatings also allow for
employing more cost-efficient substrate
materials for components used in applications with sliding friction.
The various VESTAKEEP PEEK powders are comprised of particles with average particle sizes ranging from 5 to
110 µm. They can be applied by flame
and electrostatic spraying methods, or as
aqueous dispersions. With electrostatic
application, layer thicknesses can range
from 20 and 300 µm; dispersions are suitable for thinner layers.
Gelest, Inc. Launches
SIVATE A610 Activated
Amine Functional Silane
Gelest, Inc. has unveiled its new
SIVATETM A610 activated amine
functional silane, which improves adhesion, speeds reactivity and increases
bond strength in packaging, polymer,
micro-electronics and curing applications. Gelest offers SIVATE A610
activated amine silane for use as a tie-layer between organic and inorganic
substrates in multi-layer packaging, a
coupling agent for high speed epoxy
adhesive bonding, phenolic resins,
polyurethanes and polyamides, or a
primer for high-speed UV-acrylated
urethane cure systems.
SIVATE A610 silane is a proprietary
combination of a cyclic azasilane with
an amine functional silane that drives a
thermodynamically-favored formation
of silicon-oxygen bonds to nearly 85
peercent completion in less than 15 sec-
onds. The SIVATE A610 activated amine
silane reacts with more than three times
as many hydroxyl groups as conven-
tional ethoxy silanes and has a reaction
speed more than 100 times faster than
conventional silanes, providing immedi-
ate adhesion.
Compared to conventional silanes,
SIVATE A610 activated amine silane reacts at high speed and offers adhesion
and bonding with a wider variety of substrates, including titanium, copper, aluminum, and EVA copolymers and cellulosic
resins.
The introduction of SIVATETM A610
activated amine silane is an example of
Gelest’s customer-centric research and
development.
Arkema Adds Kynar
Fluoropolymer to Powder
Coatings Range
Continuing the effort to capitalize on
synergies between Arkema’s fluoropolymer and polyamide product lines, the
Technical Polymers business has announced the addition of new Kynar
PVDF powder coatings.
Kynar PVDF is well known globally as
a premium fluoropolymer brand offering
extreme resistance to chemicals, UV exposure, acids and bases. Included in the
new powder product line are Kynar Flex
2850 PC and Kynar ADX Flex 281 tar-
geting applications which require varying
levels of flexibility, adhesion, and differ-
ing application methods. Both spray and
dip coating options are available as well
as primerless options using Arkema’s pat-
ented Kynar ADX technology. Kynar Flex
2850PC can be spray applied in thicker
layers than most fluoropolymers, making
it a ‘process friendly’ powder coating.
The new Kynar PVDF powder
coatings should be considered for the
protection of small metal chemical stor-
age tanks, high purity manufacturing
