Valspar patents low VOC coating
Patent No. U.S. 7,037,584 B2
Valspar has received a patent for a
method of making a coating composition comprising the steps of blending
an epoxy material, a reactive diluent,
and an acrylic resin; reacting the
epoxy material and the acrylic resin to
form an epoxy acrylate resin; dispersing the reactive diluent and the epoxy
acrylate resin into water; and polymerizing the reactive diluent, wherein
the aqueous coating composition
formed has a volatile organic compound content of no greater than 0.4
kilogram per liter of solids.
H.B. FULLER PATENTS
LOW GLOSS POWDER
COATING COMPOSITIONS
Patent No. U.S. 7,034,075 B1
H. B. Fuller Licensing & Financing
Inc. has been granted a patent for a
powder coating composition comprised of a first component comprised
of a melt-blended mixture of at least
one glycidyl group-containing acrylic
resin having an epoxide equivalent
weight of from approximately 250 to
1,500 and glass transition temperature of 30°C to 80°C and a curing
agent selected from the group consisting of dicarboxylic acids, dicarboxylic
acid anhydrides, and mixtures thereof; and a second component dry-blended with the first component,
comprising at least one carboxyl-group containing material that has
acid number of 10-300 and that is not
substantially compatible with the
first component.
BASF PATENTS PIGMENT
DISPERSANT AND COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,034,080 B1
BASF Corp. has obtained a patent
for a coating composition comprised of
at least one pigment dispersed in an
acrylic polymer, wherein the acrylic
polymer is prepared by first polymerizing a mixture of ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprised of at
least approximately 15% by weight
unsaturated meta-isopropenyl-,
dimethylbenzyl isocyanate; at least
one further aromatic polymerizable
monomer, in an amount so that
monomers combined are at least 50%
by weight of the mixture of ethylenically unsaturated monomers; and at
least one alkyl (meth)acrylate to
form a polymer, and secondly, reacting the isocyanate groups of the polymer with a hydroxyalkyl acid in
which the hydroxyl and acid groups
are separated by at least four atoms
or with a diol having both the primary hydroxyl group and a secondary hydroxyl group and then with a
cyclic anhydride and hydroxyethyl-ene ethyl urea.
BAYER MATERIALSCIENCE
PATENTS POLYURETHANE COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,041,768 B2
Bayer MaterialScience AG, has
received a patent for an aqueous, one-component baking system comprised
of a blocked polyisocyanate, a polymer
having isocyanate-reactive groups,
water and one or more organic and/or
inorganic compounds of vanadium in
which the vanadium has an oxidation
state of at least + 4.
ROHM AND HAAS PATENTS
POWDER COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,041,737 B2
Rohm and Haas Co. has been
granted a patent for a powder coating
composition comprised of a mixture of
a first film-forming system comprising a glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)
resin, a curing agent, and a catalyst;
and a second film-forming system
comprising a carboxyl terminated
polyester, an acrylic resin, and a cata-
lyst, wherein the film-forming system
forms a coating having a gloss greater
than 80% measured at 60°C and the
second film-forming system forms a
coating having a gloss less than 50%
measured at 60°C.
TEXAS RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL
PATENTS EPOXY COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,037,958 B1
Texas Research International has
received a patent for an epoxy topcoat
comprised of a cured mixture that is
formulated from an epoxy resin, an
epoxide-containing toughening agent,
optionally, an ultraviolet light stabilizer, a pigment, a glass fiber thixotrope
and impact toughening agent, an
optional abrasive aggregate, an
optional fire retardant, an amine curing agent, and a rubber toughening
agent other than the epoxide-containing toughening agent.
KANSAI PAINT
PATENTS COATING
Patent No. U.S. 7,045,004 B1
Kansai Paint Co. has obtained a
patent for a coating composition containing 0.1-50 parts by weight of an
organosilicate represented by the
general formula:
where R is the same or different and
represents hydrogen atom or monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1-7
carbon atoms, and/or its condensates per 100 parts by weight of a
resin solid content in the coating
composition, and 0.1-50 parts by
weight of a boric acid compound per
100 parts by weight of a solid content
of the component. CW
