BASF launches Pluracoat specialty additives
BASF has launched Pluracoat, a portfolio of specialty additives that can
help paint, coatings and adhesives
manufacturers address specific needs,
including environmental compliance
and improved cost/performance
requirements. Pluracoat additives are
based on novel, proprietary technology
focused on functional performance.
Pluracoat consists of three functional
platforms addressing environmental
compliance, pigment dispersing applications and multi-purpose coating
applications requiring enhanced performance characteristics, such as wetting, defoaming, dispersing and adhesion promotion. More info: BASF, Web:

NEW TEGO FLEXIBLE SILICONE
POLYURETHANE DISPERSION
Degussa’s Tego Coating and Ink
Additives has introduced LA-B 1096, a
one-pack silicone modified water-based polyurethane dispersion. Water-based coatings formulated with LA-B
1096 offer soft feel, high flexibility,
resistance to abrasion and are fast
drying. This dispersion can be used
alone or in combination with a broad
range of acrylic and polyurethane dispersions and can improve the abrasion
and water resistance of water-based
coatings.
Suggested applications for LA-B
1096 include automotive coatings on
plastic and synthetic rubber and clear
wood furniture and parquet floor coatings. By adding specific extender pigments the soft feel of the film can be
enhanced for application on leather
and plastics.
LA-B 1096 is non-flammable and
low odor, supplied 34% active as a
waterborne dispersion and is NMP-free. In addition to its high flexibility
and soft feel, dry films offer hydrophobicity, are recoatable and are easy to
clean. More info: Tego Coating and Ink

COGNIS OFFERS DSX 3800
RHEOLOGY MODIFIER
Cognis offers DSX 3800 rheology
modifier. Developed for use in aqueous paint, coating and adhesives, this
rheology modifier contains no solvents for heavy metals. DSX 3800 is
an associative polyurethane thickener that helps formulators to create
water-based coatings offering high-quality high performance characteristics. DSX 3800 offers efficiency at
high shear rates enabling flow and
leveling, as well as a significant
reduction of spatter in roller applications. It also improves the scrub
resistance of coatings, binds pigments together and exhibits sag and
UV-resistance. DSX 3800 is suitable
for interior and exterior paint, as
well as aqueous wood, industrial and
parquet coatings and adhesives.

BYK-CHEMIE LAUNCHES
RHEOLOGY MODIFIERS
BYK-Chemie has launched BYK-420
and BYK-425, two new rheology
modifiers that are used to adjust the
flow behavior in aqueous paint and
coatings. BYK-420 is a liquid
thixotropic additive that is characterized by its easy handling, with the
result that, by simply stirring, a
homogeneous distribution in the formulation is achieved. BYK-420
imparts a strong thixotropic flow
with a strong shear thinning effect,
is suitable as a post additive for
adjusting the viscosity of the coating
and its very distinct anti-settling
properties improve storage stability.
BYK-425 has proved to be particularly effective in the thickening of
binder-rich formulations, creating a
shear thinning, pseudoplastic flow
behavior. The main advantage is the
possibility of applying large layer
thicknesses without runners and
sagging, thus improving coverage in
pigmented systems in one step.
Using BYK-425 in combination with
BYK-420 also allows the required
flow behavior of paints and coatings
to be optimized. More info: BYK-Chemie: + 49 (0)281 670-0; Fax: + 49
