Arkema Coating Resins, a business unit of Arkema, has introduced ENCOR 636, a 100% acrylic latex for use in a wide range of low-VOC
and APEO-free architectural coatings applications. According to the company, the
new resin has been designed specifically
to help formulators simplify their raw
material inventory when needed.
“ENCOR 636 acrylic latex is for the
formulator seeking a multi-purpose raw
material solution that meets industry
standards and provides strong perfor-
mance across varied interior and exte-
rior coating applications,” John Hiel,
North American marketing manager,
explained. “Working with customers, we
identified the properties needed and de-
veloped this product around them. The
result is a multipurpose product that, in
many situations, simplifies their raw ma-
terial supply chain and streamlines their
formulation process.”
ENCOR 636 acrylic latex offers a
balance of properties for a wide range
of paint applications, including excellent
alkali and efflorescence resistance, very
good scrub resistance and superior gloss
development. It is low-VOC capable and
APEO-free. The product meets Arkema’s
EnVia standards for raw materials that
contribute to sustainable formulating.
EIT Introduces LED-R Series
of Radiometers
EIT LLC has introduced the first product (LEDCure) in the LED-R (
LED-Radiometer) family of instruments.
Designed specifically to measure industrial UV LED sources, this first
product is a vast improvement over
available instruments.
The EIT LEDCure is the result of a
two-year R&D effort that has resulted in
a patent pending “Total Optical Measured
Response” approach. “Total Optical
Measured Response” takes into account
ALL components in the optics stack, not
just the filter as other instruments do. The
result is an exceptionally flat, predictable
and repeatable response unit to unit and
source to source across the LED spectrum
of interest.
The LEDCure L395 is available in
both Profiler and Non-Profiler versions. The Profiler version comes with
an updated version EIT’s Powerview
II Software that works with Windows
7-10. PowerView II allows users to
transfer, save, analyze, and export measurement data. PowerView II’s menu-driven graphics capabilities allow fast
and easy analysis of multiple sources,
including comparisons to historical reference data.
Ross Introduces New
Tumble Blenders with
Improved Safety Features
As an added safety feature, Ross Tumble
Blenders now come standard with motors
equipped with electro-magnetic brake.
The brake motor allows the tumbling
V-cone or double cone vessel to safely decelerate to a complete stop at the proper
upright position.
Available are two 50-cu.ft. V-Cone
Tumble Blenders designed for mixing
products with bulk densities up to 150
lbs/cu.ft. Inside the blender, free-flowing
solids are gently and intimately blended
as the cone rotates. To supplement the
low-impact mixing action, a high-speed
intensifier bar is supplied for breaking up
lumps and agglomerates if necessary. The
intensifier bar includes multiple spray
nozzles for introducing minor liquid ingredients to the batch.
All product contact parts are stainless
steel 316 polished to 150-grit finish for
easy discharge and cleaning. The tumbling vessel is driven by a 30 HP brake
motor while the intensifier bar/chopper is
driven by a 15 HP motor. A safety gate
around the blender prevents operation
of the tumbling vessel when the gate
open. The finished product is discharged
through a 10” dust-tight butterfly valve.
Available in many standard sizes from
0.25 to 100 cu.ft., Ross Tumble Blenders
are offered with various options such as
vacuum capability, heavy-duty design for
high-density applications, heating/cool-ing jacket, explosion-proof motor and
PLC controls.
SiVance C2010 Resin for
Epoxy-Silicone Formulations
SiVance, LLC, a subsidiary of Milliken
& Company, has introduced SiVance
C2010 resin, a new reactive silicone
technology designed to create highly
durable epoxy-silicone hybrid coating
formulations. Specifically, this unique,
high-performance material helps extend
the flexibility and impact resistance of
protective coatings used in harsh operating environments such as undersea
drilling, hydraulic fracturing and chemical manufacturing. Compared to coatings made with competitive products,
hybrid formulations featuring SiVance
C2010 resin enable formulators to help
their customers avoid the cracking, delamination and blistering that lead to
corrosion and failure of metal pipes,
tanks and equipment.
To facilitate formulation of these hybrids, SiVance C2010 resin uses a proprietary structure that makes it broadly
compatible with aliphatic epoxies and
aromatic epoxies such as bisphenol-A,
bisphenol-F and phenol novolacs.
Coatings formulated with an epoxy-
silicone hybrid offer increased durability
in highly demanding applications, such
as immersion coatings, tank linings,
thermal insulation and subsea coatings.
Industry processes that can benefit in-
clude oil and gas exploration and ex-
traction, offshore and marine operations
and chemical manufacturing.
The new C2010 resin is available
globally in commercial quantities and
is currently registered under the Toxic
Substances Control Act (TSCA) with oth-
er global approvals in progress. CW
