roadtrip
the long and winding road
Economic downturns are nothing new—we saw them in the early
1990s, the 1970s, and, certainly, the 1930s. But the current slowdown does present some particularly tough challenges for shippers and carriers—including rising fuel costs, complex government regulations, and the ongoing driver shortage.
NASSTRAC’s annual Logistics Conference & Expo provides a
forum for shippers and carriers to exchange ideas on how to meet
these challenges. During the event, which takes place in Orlando,
Fla., from April 26–29, attendees will have an opportunity to
attend panel discussions and pose questions to carrier executives
as well as to logistics and supply chain professionals from Fortune
100 companies.
This year’s conference will not restrict itself to today’s challenges. The agenda also includes a roundtable discussion on what
will happen to carrier capacity once the recession is over and an
address on trends in global energy markets and their implications
for the future.
NASSTRAC, which stands for the National Shippers Strategic
Transportation Council, has been providing education and advocacy for shippers and carriers since 1952. For more information

don’t pull the plug on IT!
In tough times, everyone wants to cut costs.
Industry pundits, however, caution against slash-
ing your IT budget—even in hard times. At eye-
fortransport’s 11th annual Logistics Technology
Forum, you’ll hear from some of these experts
about how spending money on IT and technol-
ogy can actually save you money in 2009.
Organizers of the forum, slated for April
20–21 in Chicago, promise that attendees will
not be bombarded by sales pitches from soft-
ware and technology companies. Instead, they
will hear from supply chain executives from
Fortune 500 companies as well as CIOs and IT
experts from transportation and logistics service
providers. Recognizing that shippers and carriers
have different needs and concerns, the confer-
ence offers dedicated tracks for each group.
Qualified executives can apply for a compli-
mentary pass, which includes meals and
accommodations. For more information, visit
