Is data fact: Monitoring temperature and humidity in shipping
containers and warehouses is easier with the new Dickson Multi-feature Digital Display Temperature & Humidity Data Loggers. The
devices feature both push-to-start and push-to-stop functions.
Allowing users to control the start and stop of the recording
process this way prevents unnecessary readings from getting
mixed in with data needed for analysis.
The new data loggers, which come with a user-replaceable battery, also feature easy-to-read digital displays that let users track
temperature and humidity conditions in between data downloads.
A temperature-only version is also available. (Dickson Co., (800)

A weighty matter: Most major air carriers,
trucking firms, and freight forwarders generate
their charges using dimensional weight.
FreightScan, a supplier of technology solutions
for the freight and logistics industry, introduces FreightScan FS100, a system designed
to provide accurate calculations for determining dimensional weight in comparison to
gross weight.
The FreightScan FS100 scans loose cargo,
multiple packages, skids, and pallets and then
quickly identifies higher-yield shipments. It
completes full scans of dimensional cargo in four seconds, with
precise measurements to within one inch. Multiple lot shipments
can be scanned in skyline mode, which measures total volume of
the shipment and generates an alert that dimensional weight is
greater than gross weight. Warehouse personnel can then break
down the shipment and obtain individual dims to charge using
dimensional weight. Shipments without such an alert are then
processed using gross weight as the chargeable weight.

Secure connections: I.D. Systems Inc. has expanded the wireless
communication options its clients can choose for managing forklifts and other powered industrial trucks. In addition to Intelligent
RF communications, the company’s newest solutions incorporate
a high-security, industry-standard Wi-Fi option that enables vehicles
to communicate over most existing wireless networks.
The new offering is designed with capabilities to meet the challenges faced in deploying Wi-Fi applications: network security,
functional robustness, and system manageability. The wireless network security standards supported by the new system include
WPA-PSK (TKIP), WPA2-PSK (AES), WPA-EM (PEAP-MSCHAPv2),
WPA2-EM (PEAP-MSCHAPv2), and, in the near future, FIPS 140-2.
I.D. Systems’ Wi-Fi solution is also designed with multiple features to maximize wireless communication reliability and ensure
preservation of critical system data. One key feature is an internal
antenna on each vehicle communication module. Internal antennas are essential for the greatest system dependability in industrial environments. The system is also designed to react to vehicle
events and preserve all data—even if Wi-Fi network connectivity is
interrupted. It will automatically reconnect to the network without
operator involvement.
The solution also enables remote configuration (and re-configura-tion) of wireless network settings without having to touch any of the
vehicles. This automatic process is a particular advantage during post-installation system upgrades. (I.D. Systems, www.id-systems.com)
