Hazmat help: Labelmaster has teamed up with Instructional
Technologies to launch an online hazmat training program for professional truck drivers. The Online Transportation Training program
is designed to help drivers meet the U.S. federal re-certification
requirements for shipping hazardous materials.
The interactive four-lesson set meets the training requirements
under Parts 172.700 – 172.704CFR 49 in a new interactive format. The material is highly visual and contains practical exercises
and a review of the company security plan. The program not only
meets the federal requirements but trains the driver as well.
The four lessons that make up the training are Communication
Rules; Loading and Placarding; Driving and Parking Rules; and
Hazmat Security Awareness, which must also include a review of
the company’s unique security plan.
When all lessons have been completed, a Certificate of Training
is issued in the driver’s name for inclusion in his or her training file.

New math: Descartes Systems Group, a company that offers logistics solutions under the software as a service (SaaS) model, has
launched its Importer Security Filing (ISF) “ 10+ 2” Readiness
Program. This security measure is often referred to as “ 10+ 2”
because it requires the collection of 10 new data elements from
importers or their agents submitted 24 hours prior to vessel departure and two new message sets from ocean carriers within 48
hours of vessel departure.
The Descartes ISF Service offers a comprehensive solution to
help importers, customs brokers, carriers, freight forwarders,
NVOCCs, and shippers comply with the new regulations. To accommodate customers’ varying technical capabilities, Descartes offers
options that range from a user-friendly Web solution that permits
manual entry of data information to a tightly integrated system-to-system electronic data interchange (EDI) connection. Regardless of
the option chosen, Descartes ISF Service submits required data
information electronically to CBP and gathers the status of that filing
in real time. (Descartes, www.descartes.com/10+2)
Reaching new heights: The Raymond Corp. has introduced a new
version of its Maintenance Platform Vehicle (MPV). The Raymond
MPV provides flexible operation, comfort, and stability for overhead
maintenance and repair at elevations of up to 371 inches ( 9.4234
meters). The Raymond MPV has an enclosed operator platform and is suitable for overhead maintenance applications that require swift and reliable response.
Unlike maintenance platforms and traditional man lifts
that must be lowered to travel, the Raymond MPV can
travel at its fully elevated height of 371 inches. The
embedded ACR System, which is standard on all MPV mod-
els, regulates speed relative to elevated height at a speed of 1
to 6. 5 miles per hour when fully elevated.
The Raymond MPV features a 750-pound capacity platform that
provides ample room for the operator, tools, and supplies. A lock
on the entrance gate ensures that the gate is closed before the
vehicle will operate. (The Raymond Corp., (800) 235-7200,
