Post time. Logistics software specialist Kewill has entered
into a partnership with Newgistics, a company that provides
postal-based small parcel delivery and returns management
services. The arrangement, which is designed to save customers money and streamline the shipping process, lets
Kewill’s customers add Newgistics as an outbound carrier to
their Kewill multicarrier parcel shipping software so they can
take advantage of Newgistics’ zone-skipping service. Under
that service, Newgistics picks up clients’ shipments and delivers them to its sorting hub, where it combines packages from
multiple origins and manages their insertion into the U.S.
Postal Service network at a significant discount.
The gloves are on. Warehouse Specialists Inc. (WSI), a
national provider of integrated logistics and supply chain solutions, has entered into a strategic partnership with Kid Glove
Service, an Indianapolis-based transportation and warehousing company. The partnership will provide Kid Glove customers with access to WSI’s national distribution network,
while WSI customers will gain access to Kid Glove’s distribution resources in the Midwest.
School rule. Oxford University Press, the world’s largest uni-versity-owned publishing house, has boosted performance
and cut operating costs by implementing RedPrairie’s
Workforce Management Solution. The software was installed
at the publisher’s U.K. distribution center. In the first week
alone, order throughput rose by 19 percent. Annual order fulfillment costs have dropped 27 percent.
Rising like one. Phoenix Contact, a manufacturer and distributor of electronic products and automation technologies,
has installed a new automated storage and retrieval system
from viastore systems. The four-aisle miniload AS/RS is being
used at Phoenix Contact’s distribution center in Harrisburg, Pa.
Tracking in paradise. The State of Hawaii Department of
Agriculture and the Hawaii Farm Bureau are partnering on a
three-year RFID program. The program, known as the Hawaii
Produce Traceability initiative, uses UPM Raflatac RFID inlays to
track and trace fresh produce throughout the state’s food supply
chain. The program is designed to promote food safety by providing product visibility down to the farm or even field level.
