bigpicture
the Web we are weaving
THE WAY WE ALL GET INFORMATION HAS CHANGED IN WAYS THAT
would have been hard to imagine even a few years ago. For those of us in
the business of gathering and delivering information (we can no longer
think of ourselves as simply in the magazine business), coming to grips
with that has been challenging, to say the least.
Although we don’t pretend to have the definitive answer here at DC
VELOCITY, we are making substantive efforts to respond to all these changes
while maintaining our core mission of delivering useful information.
Several of these initiatives have been in place for some time now. We
already offer electronic newsletters, a digital edition of the magazine, webcasts, online videos showcasing some of our advertisers’ equipment in action,
and online access to our content. Now, we’re taking some additional steps that
will offer readers more ways to find information.
Look for much more frequent uploads of fresh stories
to our Web site at www.dcvelocity.com. That includes
advance looks at what you’ll see in the print edition and
the latest news on distribution, transportation, material
handling, logistics, and supply chain topics. Our weekly
e-mail newsletters have been revamped so that the stories they carry link up with the latest stories on the site.
We have launched DCV-TV, our new video offering,
which includes five channels with original material
produced by DC VELOCITY, advertiser product and
service profiles, and viewer-contributed clips.
We have added a stable of bloggers who represent
some of the brightest minds and most original thinking
in this business. Be sure to check out their blogs—and
share your responses—on our Web site.
We have upgraded our search engine to help you find articles on all the
subjects we cover and to ensure that a search brings up the most current
information first.
We’ve even jumped into the social networking sphere, letting those who
link to our sites know whenever something new appears on the Web site.
To accommodate all of these changes, we have updated our Web site to
provide easier access to information channels, blogs, videos, and more.
Finally, if you’d prefer to reduce the amount of physical mail you receive,
take a look at our digital edition, which you can link to from our Web site.
Shift your subscription to digital, and you’ll have the latest issue the day it
becomes available.
More changes are sure to come as we learn more about what readers
want and the technology that enables us to deliver that content to you. At
the core of all this remains what makes that content worth seeking out—
the people behind it all, the most experienced editors in the business.
