; Joel Sutherland, managing director of Lehigh University’s
Center for Value Chain Research, will receive the Council of
Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) 2009
Distinguished Service Award. The honor goes to an individual
who has made significant contributions to the art and science
of supply chain and logistics management. Sutherland has over
30 years of experience as a logistics and supply chain professional, most recently as president and COO of Air-Road Express.
; Fortna announces the expansion of its client support team
with the appointment of Scott Miner as vice president, systems
implementation, and Nancy Malone as account executive.
Miner brings over 20 years of supply chain and information
technology experience to his new role. He most recently was
with Manhattan Associates, where he managed multisolution
global deployments. Malone has over 20 years of account management, technology, and project implementation experience,
with a strong background in supply chain process improvements. She most recently was with Fosters Wine Estates.
; The board of directors of the Warehousing Education and
Research Council (WERC) has chosen interim executive
director Michael J. Mikitka as the organization’s new chief
executive officer. Mikitka, who originally joined WERC as conference director, previously served as meeting manager for
the Property Loss Research Bureau, a trade association of
property and casualty insurance companies.
In addition, WERC has named Connie Anderson conference chair for the group’s 2010 conference in Anaheim, Calif.
Anderson is president of Aspen, a third-party logistics service
provider.
; Doosan Infracore has promoted Kim
Parkinson to director and COO of the North
America Forklift Division. Parkinson, who has
over 25 years of material handling industry
experience, was most recently the general
manager of sales and dealer development.

; Two food industry leaders, Pamela Bailey and Leslie
Sarasin, have been elected to the board of governors of GS1
US, a supply chain standards organization. Bailey is president
and chief executive officer of the Grocery Manufacturers
Association (GMA), and Sarasin is president and chief executive officer of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI).
; LSI, a manufacturer of heavy-duty pressure-sensitive labelers for the packaging industry, has appointed Erik
Bronander director of sales. Bronander has extensive experience in the packaging industry.
; Railinc Corp. has elected Tom Werner of Norfolk Southern
Corp. chairman of the Railinc board of directors. Werner, who
currently is vice president of information technology at
Norfolk Southern, joined the Railinc board in 2007. The company also announced that Heather Campbell of the
Canadian Pacific Railway has been elected to the board.
Campbell currently serves as vice president of information
technology at the Canadian Pacific.
; Weber Distribution, a third-party logistics and supply
chain management specialist, has hired John Laws as director of transportation and Don Buys as a transportation sales
executive. Laws will oversee five service centers in California,
Oregon, and Arizona. Buys will be responsible for selling
asset and non–asset-based LTL and truckload services.
; The Evans Network of Companies, a network of transportation and logistics service providers, has announced two
promotions within the organization. Chris Giltz has been
named senior vice president of operations, and Kim Lorimer
has been named vice president, safety and compliance.
; HK Systems has appointed Moataz Eldib as product manager for the company’s “Automate the Conventional” solution.
Bringing more than 15 years of experience to the position,
Eldib will be responsible for the development and implementation of automated guided vehicle (AGV) product plans
and launch strategies. Prior to joining HK Systems, Eldib held
positions in engineering, marketing, and sales with Hyster Co.
; Crowley Holdings Inc. has announced several management changes within its logistics services group. Robert
(Bob) Weist has been promoted to vice president of sales.
Frank Griffin will assume Weist’s prior responsibilities for
day-to-day management of Crowley’s North American transportation services. Carlos Rice has been named vice president of operations and supply chain management. And Tony
Menendez will take on a new role as director of sales for
Latin America and the Caribbean.
; Fidelitone Logistics, a third-party logistics service
provider, has appointed Rob Katchen as its new director of
applications development and quality assurance. In his new
role, Katchen will be responsible for managing the company’s software development and quality assurance teams.
; The Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the
University of Denver has elected two new board members.
They are William Bourque of the Greenbrier Companies and
Mark Joseph of Veolia Transportation North America.
