; Tracking the racks. Container Centralen, a company that
operates a transportation equipment pooling system for
the horticultural industry, is implementing Fluensee’s RFID-enabled AssetTrack solution to gain better visibility and
control of its returnable shipping racks. The initial rollout
will include approximately 150 locations and 250,000 racks
supplied to customers throughout North America.
; Taking care of the paper work. Specialty paper producer Thilmany Papers has awarded Wow Logistics a multiyear
contract to handle its finished-goods distribution. Wow
Logistics, a third-party service provider, will serve its new
customer from a distribution facility in Little Chute, Wis.
; Integrated connectivity. Oracle and E2open have
announced that the E2open Logistics Network is now available as an integrated connectivity solution for Oracle
Transportation Management. The companies say the arrangement will simplify the task of establishing electronic integration between shippers, carriers, and logistics service providers.
; Going direct. Pacer International Inc. has entered into
new arrangements with the Union Pacific Railroad (UP)
that will further accelerate Pacer’s transformation into a
fully integrated, door-to-door intermodal service provider.
The new arrangements allow Pacer to strategically focus on
its direct-to-customer intermodal service offering rather
than on the wholesale intermodal business.
; Cold storage. Congelados de la
Hacienda, a Mexico-based supplier of
frozen fruits and vegetables, has contracted with Westfalia Technologies to
design, manufacture, and install a second automated storage and retrieval
system (AS/RS) in the freezer section of its facility near Leon,
Mexico. In addition to supplying an AS/RS similar to one it
installed in the facility in 2007, Westfalia will implement its
Savanna.net warehouse management software at the site.
; Well managed. RedPrairie Corp. has announced that MD
Logistics has upgraded its existing RedPrairie Warehouse
Management solution and added RedPrairie’s Workforce
Management solution at its two distribution facilities in
Plainfield, Ind.
; On a roll. GT Nexus has announced that LyondellBasell,
a polymers, petrochemicals, and fuels company, has begun
a full rollout of the GT Nexus Web-based global logistics visibility and control platform for its deep-sea cargo. The initiative supports the company’s polymers business.
; Tracking defense. The U.S. Department of Defense has
purchased $6.6 million worth of standards-based active
radio-frequency identification (RFID) tracking products
from Savi. The RFID tags, which will be affixed to cargo containers and other supply chain assets, enable near real-time
supply visibility and interoperability with allied defense
forces and government organizations.
; Running on Optiant. New Balance, a manufacturer of
athletic footwear and apparel, is deploying Optiant’s
PowerChain inventory optimization solution within its
make-to-stock product lines. New Balance will use Optiant’s
PowerChain Inventory and PowerChain Planner modules to
optimize inventory targets, improving product availability
and service levels while reducing total inventory.
; Analyze this. Wesco, a Michigan-based convenience
store chain, has chosen Retalix’s DAX Analyzer to improve
its demand forecasting and replenishment operations. The
retailer will use the DAX Analyzer dashboard to obtain a
high-level view of key performance indicators for inventory
and replenishment management.
; Export advice. Technology support services company
DecisionOne has implemented Management Dynamics’
Export On-Demand solution, an export compliance program
targeted to the needs of small and medium-sized exporters.
DecisionOne will use the solution to streamline its product
classification and restricted-party screening activities.
; Cool collaboration. Glacier Computer and Solzon Corp.,
a technology integration consulting firm, have announced
a strategic partnership. The companies will work together
to combine Glacier’s rugged Everest and Ridgeline industrial computers with Solzon’s application software and integration services.
; Makes sense. ConAgra Foods has selected Terra
Technology’s Multi-Enterprise Demand Sensing (MDS)
solution to reduce inventory and improve customer service.
MDS reconciles daily demand signals from all participants
in the supply chain, allowing for improved short-term forecast accuracy, reduced inventory, and improved cash flow.
; Solutions for South Africa. HighJump Software, a developer of supply chain execution solutions, has signed a deal
with South Africa-based i WMS to serve as HighJump’s associate for the South Africa region. Under the agreement,
HighJump Software and iWMS will jointly market, sell,
implement, and support the company’s Supply Chain
Advantage product suite.
