To catch a thief: FreightWatch International (USA) has released
the Geo F1 Tracker, a wireless covert tracking device for the cargo
security market. The unit, which is powered by the Qualcomm
inGeo platform, is the smallest wireless covert tracking device
available, according to the company.
Slightly longer than a large paperclip, the Geo F1 Tracker has a
real-time active reporting capability with Web-based monitoring functionality, pinging continual information about its location. Using a
combination of GPS and cellular signals, it works outdoors and
indoors, as well as through secure containers, according to the manufacturer. (Freight Watch International, www.freightwatchusa.com)
Seal the deal: Rite-Hite Corp. offers its
new line of Frommelt Platinum Series
high-performance dock seals, which feature advanced engineering and materials
to extend the life of foam compression
dock seal components. The seals incorporate innovative head pad and head curtain
designs that ensure they can easily withstand abuses delivered by backing trailers,
which can destroy dock seal headers.
Removable and replaceable wear components also make maintenance quick, easy, and cost-effective.
Platinum Series dock seal headers have an outer reinforcing of
high-strength, friction-resistant Durathon fabric, which protects
against extreme wear and tear on high-traffic docks. Tough corner-wear boots cover the ends of the header and upper side pads to
protect the areas of the seal most prone to damage. The independent, double-reinforced boots attach with Velcro, making them
easy to remove and replace when worn.
Platinum Series seals are available with high-performance head
pads or head curtains. The head pads are constructed to minimize
pressure when a trailer backs in for reduced friction and wear.
Seals with head curtains feature impactable, high-molecular-weight-polyethylene framing, making them resistant to damage
from trailers that back in off center. The seals also feature
Firefighter heat-dissipation protection, which is a triple-layer, reinforced foil technology that prevents the heat buildup from trailer
marker lights that can lead to burning of dock seal headers. (

All aboard: ALK Technologies announces the availability of PC-Miler|Rail 16, the latest version of the company’s rail routing,
mileage, and mapping software solution. The new software features an accurate digital representation of the current North
American rail network for calculating and auditing rail miles, the
company says.
This latest release also contains many new and enhanced features, like extensive data updates of rail freight stations, railroads,
interline routing, and track ownership rights as well as the CN and
CP post-merger systems. The company says that when used
together with PC-Miler, PC-Miler|Rail 16 is also an effective tool in
analyzing intermodal alternatives to all-truck moves. (ALK

Weighing in: Mettler Toledo introduces the IND131/331 terminals. This new family of industrial process weighing terminals provides maximum connectivity with smaller footprints. The
IND131/331 terminals are available in multiple enclosure styles to
match any process environment. These terminals provide a solution for applications requiring fast data exchange with a process
controller.
The terminals are compact and easy to integrate and set up.
Their versatile form factors make them an economical solution for
quick, accurate, high-performance weighing for analog scales,
according to the manufacturer. Each terminal features support for
analog scale bases, ultra-fast A/D conversion rate and TraxDSP digital filtering, and an organic LED display that is readable in all light
conditions. (Mettler Toledo, www.mt.com)
Sunshine line: Horizon Lines Inc., a domestic ocean shipping and
integrated logistics company, is adding regularly scheduled vessel
container service between Tampa, Fla., and Puerto Rico. A call at
the Port of Tampa is being added to the carrier’s Gulf Express
Service (GAX), currently operating a fixed-day, biweekly schedule
between Houston, Texas, and San Juan.
The addition of a port call in Tampa provides new options for
customers located in west and central Florida, while continuing to
provide fast and reliable fixed-day vessel service between Houston
and San Juan. The expanded biweekly Gulf Express port rotation
will be Houston - Tampa - San Juan. (Horizon Lines Inc., www.hori-zonlines.com)
We brake for drivers: Electric
Brake Carts from Topper
Industrial have a rear electric
braking system that is operated and powered by the tugging vehicle. All braking systems work simultaneously
when the vehicle operator
presses the brakes, greatly minimizing the forward momentum
created by the weight being towed and bringing the carts to a full
stop. Each cart has a load capacity of 15,000 pounds. (Topper

Earning its stripes: Zebra introduces the 2824 Plus desktop printer for 2-inch print widths. The new printer is suited for space-con-strained work areas where ease of use and reliability are critical.
This printer replaces Zebra’s 2824 model but offers backward
compatibility.
Compact but durable, the desktop printer combines a powerful
32-bit RISC processor for increased throughput with both EPL and
ZPL programming languages for maximum efficiency. The printer’s
compact size allows for diverse installation options in almost any
environment.
The unit also offers a range of connectivity options for flexible
integration, including serial, USB, and parallel, with 10/100
Ethernet as optional. Its standard resolution of 203 DPI provides
crisp bar codes and text for maximum readability. (Zebra,
