Fleet weight monitoring: Truck Weight Inc. introduces Truck Weight
FleetLink, a telematics device that gives fleet managers the ability
to electronically capture and communicate axle-weight data generated by a wireless scale. TruckWeight FleetLink integrates with
Smart Scale, a wireless onboard scale for commercial trucks, tractors, and trailers. Smart Scale sensors monitor subtle changes in
the air-ride or mechanical spring suspension. An RF transmitter
sends the data to the Truck Weight FleetLink receiver, which is connected to an onboard computer, onboard communications device,
or cellular phone via Bluetooth, RS-232, or USB. From there, the
data can be used by a wide range of fleet management programs,
including dispatch, compliance, and accounting.
Truck Weight FleetLink also can be connected to an in-cab printer to produce receipts and other documents on site. Truck Weight
FleetLink uses AA batteries for power and does not require electricity from a truck or tractor. The low-powered RF signal is intrinsically safe. (Truck Weight, www.truckweight.com)
Stak is back: Stanley Vidmar, a
manufacturer of premium custom
storage solutions, unveils its
enhanced line of Stak adjustable
racking products. The new lineup
includes three models: the Stak
base model, the Stak Max, and the
Stak Max 5000.
The Stak base model is a system of removable, adjustable pallets and a captive lifting and handling device that facilitates storage
and retrieval. A single operator can efficiently manage loads weighing up to 4,000 pounds in less than 250 square feet, according to
the company.
Stak Max has all of the features and benefits of the Stak base
model taken to the next level. It can be built up to 24 feet high,
and each pallet can accommodate loads of up to 2,500 pounds.
Six additional pallet widths are available ( 19 sizes total), providing
greater flexibility and reducing total system cost.
Stak Max 5000 is the top-of-the-line system. It includes all of the
features of Stak Max but offers load capacities of up to 5,000
pounds per pallet, with a vertical height of up to 24 feet. Six additional pallet widths are also available. (Stanley Vidmar,

10 + 2 capable: Descartes Systems Group, a global on-demand
software-as-a-service (SaaS) logistics solutions provider, has gone
live with its Importer Security Filing (ISF) “ 10+ 2” service. This service is available to the more than 4,000 members of the Descartes
Global Logistics Network to help them comply with U.S. Customs
and Border Protection’s (CBP) ISF “ 10+ 2” initiative.
Descartes offers three different ISF Service delivery options to
accommodate varying customer needs. Descartes ISF is a simple
Web user interface that enables customers to log in via the
Internet and enter all the data required for an ISF filing ( 5 or 10
elements). This service sends data directly to CBP and provides a
view of the filing status. Customers have the option of receiving
the status updates via electronic data interchange if they choose.
E-alerts can also be used to notify the customers via e-mail if there
is a problem with the filing.
Descartes ISF-Connect is a service that enables customers to
gather the complete data set for the ISF filing in their own systems
for submission to CBP. The service transmits the data for each ISF
filing and provides a status of the filing via electronic message for
posting in the customer’s own system. Transmissions to CBP are
made via the Descartes Global Logistics Network’s secure connection to CBP.
The Descartes ISF-Premier service enables customers to collect
the data needed for the ISF filing from multiple electronic document submissions or parties, including data sources such as a purchase order or advance shipment notice. Once the data are collected for the partial ISF filing, the customer can complete the
remaining required fields and submit the filing to Customs via the
user interface as needed.
Descartes’ ISF Service is a part of Descartes’ GLN Customs Filing
& Compliance suite. (Descartes, www.descartes.com)

Reefer (DSR) controller, the latest in
microprocessor control for direct-drive systems. Features of
the DSR controller include continuous monitoring of the load,
automatic startup, three standard hour meters, maintenance
reminders, battery protection features, and easy-to-understand
alarm codes for quick diagnostics. It also offers new voltage
options of 24V and 12V.
The V-520 also includes SmartPower electric standby to save fuel
and cut emissions. (Thermo King Corp., www.thermoking.com)
Sorting goes green: FKI Logistex now offers its LS-4000E tilt-tray
and LS-4000CB cross-belt sorters. These units feature linear synchronous motor (LSM) technology and consume approximately 75
percent less energy than comparable sorter systems using linear
induction motor (LIM) technology, according to the company. The
LS-4000’s LSM generates propulsive force via electromagnetic energy, as opposed to mechanical friction between moving parts. This
operation reduces energy consumption and noise levels, while
increasing speed, reliability, and positioning accuracy. In addition to
the LSM drive, the LS-4000E and LS-4000CB feature a modular
design that enhances system flexibility and offers fast and easy installation and commissioning. (FKI Logistex, www.fkilogistex.com)
