As we develop strategic partnerships, we know that collaboration starts with the first
conversation.
At DSC Logistics, we have just completed a year of honoring the founding of our company 50 years ago -
and it’s given us the opportunity to reflect on who we were then - and who we are today.
Our founder, Jim McIlrath, was once asked what his definition of “success” was when he started the original
company, Dry Storage Corporation. His reply was that he had a simple business plan - it was that the
company would make it possible for his family “to eat.”
Later, he explained that his secret for success was this: You just keep talking to customers to find out what they
want.
Finding out what customers want—and delivering that—is what DSC has always been about. So much has
changed since 1960, but one important thing has not changed: DSC’s mission to help customers achieve
their business goals. After all, Dry Storage was started with an idea about how a business could serve its
customers better, and we continue to strive to serve customers better than anyone else. We call it “Putting
the Customer First.”
“Putting the Customer First” means learning as much as we can about our customers’ business. It means
always looking for better ways of doing things for our customers, and responding quickly to help solve their
problems. In fact, because we work with different customers in various situations - including leading Fortune
500 companies in extremely competitive arenas - we acquire the experience, knowledge and know-how
that enable us to proactively bring ideas to customers about potential problems, challenges and
opportunities before they have even recognized them. Because we are vigilant about being tuned in to our
customers’ business, we learn all about customers and their supply chain, beyond even the specific details
they tell us themselves.
As we develop strategic partnerships with our customers, we know that collaboration starts with the first
conversation. We find out what our customer wants and needs to accomplish, and we design a solution
based on our customer’s business situation and needs.
While our role as strategic partner and Lead Logistics Partner (LLP) has changed through the years, our
commitment to customers’ changing needs and goals hasn’t!
