APL Logistics adds 53-
footers to fleet: APL
Logistics has begun to
deploy its own fleet of 53-
foot containers in the
North American domestic
intermodal market. The
fleet is expected to reach
1,000 units by the end of
the summer and in excess of that before the year is up.
APL Logistics’ move to launch its own fleet of containers
comes at a time when an industrywide equipment crunch introduces greater uncertainty into the supply chains of manufacturers and retailers across the United States, Canada, and
Mexico. APL says it is putting its own containers into the market to better assure its North American customers of equipment availability and uninterrupted freight service. (APL

Modular vacuum end effectors: Schmalz is now offering a
new modular system for vacuum end effectors (VEEs). This new
product allows for fast and flexible gripper configurations for use
in pick and place processes, case packers, carton and tray erecting machines, and top and side loading machines, as well as in
packaging machines with frequent format changes.
The VEE modular system from Schmalz permits minimum configurations of one suction pad ( 38 x 38 mm and a dead weight
of only 60 g). The largest configurable vacuum end effector
comes with 12 suction pads at variable distances and a maximum gripper size of 300 x 200 mm at a weight of 800 g. Users
can select suction pads depending on their requirements: the flat
suction pad SGPN for handling fragile foil and blister packaging,
the flat suction pad SPF for handling stable cardboard boxes, or
the bellows suction pad SPB4 for handling filled bags or flow
wrap packaging. (Schmalz, www.schmalz.com)
RF Control: Goff’s Enterprises has released a new unified RF
Control. The control allows all Goff Door Products (G2 1800, G2
2800, G2 3600, and Legacy) to use the same family of RF transmitters.
Using the unified control will not only simplify inventory but
also reduce setup time and streamline technical training and
debugging, the company says. (Goff’s Enterprises Inc.,

Superior Mark Corner solution: InSite Solutions now offers the
Superior Mark Corner system, a durable floor marking solution
that features beveled edges, recessed adhesive, and a quick peel
liner. When a forklift pushing a pallet exerts force against
Superior Mark tape, the pallet will ride up and over the beveled
edge, rather than dislodging
the floor tape.
The solution is designed as an
alternative to solid lines of paint
or thin-grade vinyl tape often
used to delineate box shapes on
the floor, whether to create
work cells, pallet alignment systems, forklift parking areas, or
other rectangular spaces. These solid lines are subject to wear as
forklifts and heavy machinery pass over them, pushing pallets or
dragging other materials. Retouching the box with paint requires
a costly shut-down, and thin vinyl tape requires labor-intensive
scraping to remove completely.
A more effective way of delineating these spaces is to mark
only the L-shaped corners, the company says. This allows plenty
of unmarked space between the corners to accommodate the
traffic but still enables the floor marking to remain highly visible.
In addition, corner markers are much easier to maintain than
solid lines, because if one corner is damaged, it can be individually replaced. (InSite Solutions, www.stop-painting.com)
