Enhancements to 3PL Warehouse Manager: 3PL Central has added full palletization functionality and support to its software-as-a-service (SaaS)-based warehouse management system, 3PL Warehouse Manager.

3PL Warehouse Manager now includes features giving customers the ability to receive, store, and pick material by individual pallet numbers. Users can also view inventory by item number, lot number, serial number, and quantity. In addition, they can automate pallet setup and configuration; ship full or partial pallets; and print custom pallet labels with license plate bar codes, content description, and other information. LTL consolidation service to New England: Port Jersey Logistics, a public warehousing and distribution company, is launching a less-than-truckload (LTL) freight consolidation/pool distribution program to New England through its Continental Logistics division. The company will offer scheduled departures from its Tyler Distribution warehouse in New Jersey to all points in New England. The service will be expanded to additional regions throughout the year, with a goal of providing a national consolidation program by early 2012.

Freight consolidation—under which separate LTL shipment orders with similar routes are combined into a single load—can be a highly effective means of managing supply chains. Without it, smaller deliveries can add up to higher per-pound costs and, often, additional handling fees. Pool distribution is the delivery of orders to numerous destination points within a particular geographic area. Consolidated orders are shipped together to a regional terminal, where the shipments are separated, re-sorted based on like destinations, and reloaded onto local delivery trucks.

Pool distribution can offer customers significant savings compared with direct LTL shipping. Other benefits include reduced transit times and reduced claim potential due to minimized handling. (Port Jersey Logistics, www.portjersey.com)
