M1000 handheld computer: DAP
Technologies’ new M1000 data-capture unit
is a rugged handheld computer about the size
of a mobile phone that’s designed for retail
and warehouse use. Equipped with voice
capability and a bar-code scanner, DAP’s
M1000 puts the functionality needed for
inventory control, picking, and packing into
one of the smallest rugged devices available.
Featuring the data-capture technology usually found in much larger devices, DAP’s
M1000 measures just 5. 7 by 2. 4 by 1 inch and
weighs 8. 2 ounces, making it a palm-sized
and featherweight solution that can be used
all day without fatigue and slipped into a
pocket between tasks. The M1000 provides
protection against dust and water and has
received an ingress protection (IP) rating IP65.
DAP’s M1000 scans bar codes and allows for
easy manual data input via a 12-key numeric
keypad or its 2.8-inch color touch screen with
LED backlighting. Conveniently placed and generously sized scanner buttons provide one-touch access to one-dimensional laser or one-dimensional/two-dimensional imager scanning.
Equipped with Windows CE 6.0 Professional,
a Marvell PXA310 624 MHz processor, 256 MB
Flash memory, and 128 MB RAM, the M1000
offers ample power and storage capabilities. It
supports WWAN GPRS/GSM 3G, WLAN with a
Summit 802.11 b/g radio, and Bluetooth. (DAP

HDMC4845 BulkPak containers: Orbis Corp.,
a manufacturer of sustainable reusable packaging, has introduced its newest reusable bulk
containers, the HDMC4845 BulkPak units.
HDMC BulkPak containers are designed to use
less shipping space in a standard 53-foot shipping trailer while reducing container weight so
companies can increase the amount of product
they ship, the company says. The units are available in two heights: 27 inches and 34 inches.
The smaller unit, the HDMC4845-27, was
specifically designed to fit 112 filled bins per
inbound truckload and 252 collapsed bins per
return truckload. Its larger counterpart, the
HDMC4845-34, fits 84 filled bins and 252
collapsed bins per truckload. Both containers
are compatible with other 48- by 45-inch
plastic pallets and bulk containers and can be
used with mixed loads of totes and pallets.
The HDMC4845 BulkPak containers are
available with solid sidewalls, a solid deck, and
a fully replaceable all-plastic perimeter stringer
bottom. The containers also feature spring-loaded latches for easy assembly and collapse,
and color indicator strips, which help make
the containers easier for forklift drivers to see.
