Electric forklifts: Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift
America Inc. (MCFA) has introduced the new
Jungheinrich EFG 2-5 series of three- and four-wheel electric counterbalanced pneumatic-tire
forklifts to the North American market.
The EFG series trucks are designed to work in a
wide range of indoor and outdoor applications. They have
all the benefits of an electric lift truck, including energy efficiency, zero exhaust emissions, and the ability to operate up to
two shifts on a single battery charge for most applications,
according to the manufacturer. The forklifts are equipped with
standard features such as three-phase AC motors, regenerative
braking, and an ergonomic operator compartment.
According to MCFA, Jungheinrich’s AC technology is both
highly intelligent and extremely powerful. This allows the truck
to perform as well as or better than other electric and internal
combustion (IC) models, while still being more energy efficient in
the process, says MCFA.
The electronic control system allows the operator to experience smooth travel, dynamic reversing, and pinpoint positioning
with minimal energy consumption, says the company. The lift
truck also offers five levels of pre-programmable performance
modes, ideal for applications with operators of varying skill levels. (Jungheinrich, www.jungheinrich-lift.com)

Layer-picking system: RMT Robotics has developed a new
layer-picking system using its state-of-the-art patent-pending
robotic layer-picking tool.
Using a combination of vacuum and clamping technology, the
new tool can pick up 95 percent of consumer products on the
market today, including corrugated or boxboard cases, shrink-wrapped products, bottles, tubs, and open trays. It can also handle picking patterns with voids and tier sheets.
The RMT layer-picking system can pick multiple layers at once
as well as pick and place entire pallet loads. In this way, it provides simple and secure inventory replenishment, especially with
unstable loads, says RMT Robotics.
The new robotic layer-picking tool increases throughput and
reduces the footprint for automated systems, according to the
manufacturer. This makes the technology good for food, beverage, and consumer goods distribution centers, says RMT. (RMT

Dock seal: Frommelt Products Corp.,
a division of Rite-Hite Corp., has
introduced the Insulator Dock Seal
with Light-Blocking Header. Frommelt
says the new unit is the most durable
dock seal available and the first one
with a header that effectively seals small gaps caused by trailer
protrusions (such as door latches). The header is designed with
rows of layered, horizontal pleats that conform around these protrusions as the trailer backs in, improving the sealing efficiency.
The Insulator Dock Seal also includes features that protect
against wear and tear, lengthening the life of the seal. For example, all trailer and forklift contact surfaces are reinforced with
high-strength Durathon fabric over a flexible vinyl base fabric.
Durathon’s pebble-grained coating creates a friction-resistant
surface that trailers slide against rather than abrade.
The Insulator’s corners are also reinforced with layers of
Durathon fabric and flexible high-molecular weight polyethylene sheeting for resistance to damage. These components are
attached with industrial-strength Velcro so they can be easily
replaced and maintained at low cost. (Rite-Hite Corp.,

Routing and mileage software: Rand McNally has updated its
MileMaker and IntelliRoute software, which provide truck-specif-ic routing, mileages, and mapping.
The new software release includes updated postal codes for
Canadian provinces and territories, new postal codes for Mexico,
and updated ZIP and Standard Point Location codes. It also now
provides all toll costs for the United States and Canada, including updated ferry costs. Rand McNally has added 95 new overhauled rest areas, weigh stations, service areas, and welcome
centers to the system and removed 25 closed facilities.
The software updates are available for mainframe, AS/400,
Unix, and PC-based platforms of MileMaker and IntelliRoute. The
next update/release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.
