The idea of utilizing dimensional and weight data has become an attractive topic in the distribution industry. Manually collecting cube and weight data to assist in the process of using space more efficiently, thereby generating additional revenue or cost savings, has proven very time consuming, inaccurate, and labor intensive for practical use. Vast amounts of money can be saved in the fulfillment process if companies would use a CUBISCAN® automated dimensioning device to measure and weigh items at the receiving point in the Distribution Center. Distribution facilities have invested large amounts of money in warehouse management systems (WMS) to help them facilitate efficient receiving, put-away, and order fulfillment. However, in too many instances, inaccurate dimensional and weight data are being entered into the warehouse system, paralyzing its effectiveness and its all-important ROI.

Attempting to manually measure small parts or individual items in the Distribution Center definitely has its challenges. Too many companies rely on the ineffective tape measure, resulting in bad dimensional information. The CubiScan 125 is the perfect solution to collect extremely accurate cube data. It is a small static cubing system that uses a combination of sensing technologies to measure and weigh irregular-shaped parts and components as well as boxed and case-pack items. Small parts and non-cuboidal items are measured with great precision using infrared sensing technology, while larger boxes and cases are measured with ultrasonic sensors.

The CubiScan 125 automates the collection of dimensional data for slotting, carton selection, and will optimize the use of space through effective load planning in medical, pharmaceutical, apparel, hardware, and nearly any other type of warehouse operation. An interface software program, called Qbit™, accompanies the system and allows for data storage and transfer to the WMS. A mobile cart, portable battery system, handheld barcode scanner, and other useful accessories are available to create a completely mobile cubing, weighing and identification work station.
