Tilt tray sorter: Last February, solutions provider SDI acquired Tech Conveyor of
Phillipsburg, N.J. Along with that acquisition came Tech Conveyor’s line of sorting products,
including a tilt tray sorter. The system comes in trays of two sizes that can handle a wide range
of product sorting tasks. It is also designed to accommodate one or multiple induction stations.
The system is ideal for e-commerce and other unit handling sortation needs, the company says.

Compact pocket sorter: To
meet the needs of retailers and
wholesalers that lack space for the
large automated systems necessary
for efficient e-commerce distribution, SSI Schaefer has introduced a
compact and flexible overhead conveying system—the SSI Carrier.
The SSI Carrier, a patent-pend-ing conveying system, consists of a
universal carrier, a circulating conveyor, an accumulation conveyor,
and switches alongside workstations
for loading and unloading the carrier units. The company opted for a standard component
approach that allows for easy interchanges with modular components as needed. This flexibility allows for complex picking, sorting, buffering, and sequencing in a cost-effective manner.
The overhead SSI Carrier transports pockets, pouches, or hanging goods on maintenance-free
rollers, reaching performance throughputs of up to 10,000 carriers per hour. For returned
goods, the SSI Carrier includes a dynamic returns buffer. Qualified returned goods are registered and placed in a pocket or pouch, or hung and fed into the system via a simple switch.
From there, both returned goods and regular inventory are sequenced for order picking, ensuring the returned item is shipped out first.
An assigned RFID tag represents each carrier and enables easy inventory tracking. The
conveyor was also engineered to distribute flow equally throughout the entire system, while
the horizontal placement of pockets or hanging goods allows for optimum use of space. (SSI

Item sorter: Opex Corp. has rolled out its new “Sure Sort” sorting system. Sure Sort is a
robotic item sorter that easily handles complex variables and delivers a wide variety of parcels
and individual items to their final location in a single pass.
The highly scalable, configurable, and cost-effective small-item sorting system uses a smaller
version of the iBot robots found in the company’s Perfect Pick system. The iBots can travel
vertically as well as horizontally along a put-wall configuration. When they reach a destination
cubby, a belt on the iBot gently rolls the product into a tray used to gather the order. Once the
order is complete, the trays easily slide out of the put-wall for quick packing.
In addition, Opex offers a beefier version of its Perfect Pick system, known as Perfect Pick
HD (for high density). This version stores products double deep for greater storage capacity in
a smaller footprint. Totes are delivered to order filling stations at the end of the aisles, where
workers are guided by both pick-to-light and put-to-light technologies to assure accuracy in
order filling. (Opex Corp., www.opex.com)
Conveyor belt: Intralox, a supplier of modular plastic conveyor belts, has introduced a
technology designed to help e-commerce companies solve the challenges of sorting high volumes of small packages. The new Series 7050 ARB (activated roller belt) solution is designed
for the efficient sorting of eaches and small items for applications such as order consolidation
and returns processing.
The Series 7050 ARB is similar to the company’s 7000 product but takes the technology a
step further by adding more roller density and a finger transfer plate, allowing operations to
handle smaller packages in a space-efficient footprint. With its ability to turn, switch, “lane,”
and transfer even the smallest packages on one piece of equipment and at high speeds, the
7050 eliminates requirements like the need for fenced-in robotics, well-trained operators, and
multiple end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) solutions. (Intralox, www.intralox.com)
