Industrial printers: Zebra Technologies Corp.
has introduced the ZT600 and ZT510 industrial
printers, which are designed to withstand the
harshest environments while delivering superior print quality and uptime, the manufacturer
says. The company also launched Printer Profile
Manager Enterprise, a browser-based remote
printer management solution for Zebra Link-OS
enabled printers that’s engineered to reduce
cost and management time.
Printers in the ZT600 series offer new
user-friendly features like simplified media and
ribbon loading, a highly visible color display
that shares printer status, and guided multimedia help to assist users in resolving issues
quickly. The printers run Link-OS applications
designed to streamline device deployment,
network connectivity, daily use, and routine
maintenance to optimize productivity.
Zebra’s other new model, the ZT510, is a
cost-effective printer that’s ideal for applications that need only a basic feature set but still
require high-quality printing and durability, the
company says.
Printer Profile Manager Enterprise enables
IT staff to maintain Link-OS enabled printers
with up-to-date security and makes it easy to
remotely manage, troubleshoot, and configure
fleets of Zebra printers from a single location,
reducing operational expenses. (Zebra, www.

Location tracking: FourKites has launched a
real-time temperature and location tracking
solution for shippers that’s designed to make it
easier for them to comply with the Food Safety
Modernization Act (FSMA), which requires
shippers and carriers to take steps to ensure
that temperature-sensitive foods remain within
specified temperature ranges during transit.
According to the company, FourKites
Temperature Tracking can help shippers
reduce spoilage, operational costs, and one-time spot buys. Shippers can also increase
customer satisfaction by identifying potentially
noncompliant loads earlier in the shipping
process, before those loads make it all the way
to their destinations or have to be diverted to
quality centers.
Temperature Tracking relays load temperatures in tandem with location data every 15
minutes. Customizable notifications alert users
as soon as temperatures fall outside a specified
range. Visualization and analysis tools enable
shippers to review individual and aggregated
load temperatures over time to spot trends
and to compare performance against industry
benchmarks. (FourKites, www.fourkites.com)
Vehicle restraint: Systems Inc., a manufacturer of loading dock equipment, has
released its TPR UniLock vehicle restraint for its three brands: Poweramp, McGuire,
and DLM. The UniLock vehicle restraint is an upgrade from the standard TPR
restraint currently offered. Its added features make the UniLock ideal for vehicles
with an obstructed rear impact guard (RIG), including intermodal and container
trailers with cover plates, according to the company.
Over 90,000 forklift accidents are reported every year, many of which are
caused by a truck prematurely departing from the dock or creeping away due to
loading and unloading momentum. Vehicle restraints are designed to keep a trailer secured to the loading dock. However, the momentum that pushes the trailer
away from the dock during loading/unloading causes the trailer’s RIG to create
“RIG wedge” with the hook of the trailer-positioned restraint. This RIG wedge
prevents the restraint’s hook from storing and requires the trailer to be reversed
to remove the pressure.
The UniLock’s advanced cam design rotates the hook away from the trailer’s
RIG to remove the pressure and then lowers into its stored position. This eliminates
the need for the driver to reverse the trailer to release the RIG wedge pressure.
Furthermore, many trailers such as intermodal and container trailers have a
large plate or other obstruction above the trailer’s RIG. Since this prevents the
restraint’s hook from latching on the top of the RIG, oftentimes the hook can
get pushed down, disengaging the trailer. The unique advantage of the UniLock
is its internal safety mechanism, which locks the hook into position when force
is applied during loading and unloading, allowing the restraint to stay engaged.
The UniLock’s durable steel and zinc-plated construction, along with its
advanced locking mechanism and integrated communication system, make it
the safest, most universally effective restraint for any industry, the company says.
